Victorian with unusual touches

House near the Severn was custom built in 2001, has gas fireplace, wood mantel

A house in the gated Annapolis community of Epping Forest along the Severn River is on the market for $625,000.

This 2001 custom-built Victorian home has four levels, three bedrooms, three full bathrooms and a half-bath.

The original owners added some unusual touches, including a staircase that was saved from an old Pittsburgh mansion.

To the right of the tile-floor foyer is a set of French doors that lead to the study. This room features built-in cabinetry and is carpeted.

Straight back from the front entrance is an open floor plan that includes the living room, kitchen and dining room. The living room area has a gas fireplace with a custom-made wood mantel under clerestory windows.

Wall-to-wall carpeting covers all the rooms except the kitchen, and floor-toceiling windows in the living room area let in lots of natural light and provide views of the wooded backyard and a patch of bamboo. To the left of the fireplace is a built-in cabinet with shelves for books and a television.

From the living room, another set of French doors leads to a screened-in porch with more views of the wooded lot.

The kitchen has tile floors and custommade cabinets featuring leaded glass. The island countertop is made of a single wood block, and the ceiling has a bulkhead design. The adjacent dining room has a bay window.

A full bathroom with pocket doors is between the dining room and the study. A wood lintel with faux painted stones on the sides decorates the entrance, and a mural depicting the Provence area of France is painted on the pocket doors.

The upstairs has two bedroom suites with two full bathrooms. The master suite has a door that leads to a rooftop deck. This bedroom also has a gas fireplace. Transom windows allow the natural light to brighten this room. The bathroom has a soaking tub, double vanities with two mirrors, and a ceramic tile floor. The second bedroom suite is similar, but without a private deck. A stacked washer and dryer is in the full bathroom between the tub/shower combo and the sink. Both bedrooms rooms have wall-to-wall carpeting.

The third floor is a long room; half of it has carpeting and the other half has a tile floorg. The room has a slanted ceiling and built-in shelving, as well as a half-bathroom.

The lower level has a marble-topped bar that came from an Annapolis hotel. A set of French doors leads to a deck and another set of sliding glass doors goes to the outside yard. A separate elevated room was built as a wine cellar.

Residents of the gated community use golf carts to get around. Some of the amenities are a chapel, a community center, tennis courts, boat slips and access to a beach.
