NEW YORK — The latest hit by Brett Gardner produced another walk-off win for the Yankees — with no mishaps.

Gardner’s RBI single with the bases loaded in the ninth inning sent the AL East leaders over the Rays 5-4 for their sixth straight victory.

“When we needed the huge hit, he got it for us,” manager Joe Girardi said.

Said Gardner: “Makes me feel good. It’s an exciting win for us, a very important game against a tough opponent.”

Gardner won the series opener

Athletics: RHP Sonny Gray’s start Sunday was pushed back until after Monday’s trade deadline. The move is ostensibly to give Gray, the subject of much trade speculation, extra rest. Gray is 6-5 with a 3.43 ERA and is 4-2 with a 1.38 ERA over his last six starts.

Rangers: Adrian Beltre singled to get within one hit of 3,000 for his career in a 4-0 loss to the Orioles. Beltre went 1-for-4, singling in the fourth . ... RHP Yu Davish said he did indeed tip some pitches when allowing a career-high 10 runs in his last start. Darvish said he was making a slight pause with his hands before throwing a fastball and can easily fix it. Thursday night with an 11thinning home run. That sparked a wild celebration at the plate, and rookie Aaron Judge was accidentally hit by Gardner’s helmet and lost half of his front left tooth.

A day after Judge went to the dentist for a fix, he steered clear this time, instead pouring Gatorade on Gardner and nimbly avoiding the happy group.

Chase Headley and Gary Sanchez hit long home runs for the Yankees. The contending Rays lost their sixth straight game at Yankee Stadium.

“That team is on fire right now,” Rays manager Kevin Cash said. “Seems like a lot of things

Red Sox: LHP David Price said TV analyst Dennis Eckersley should visit the clubhouse to explain his critical comments about some Red Sox players. Price said Eckersley “never shows his face in the clubhouse.” Price, who confronted Eckersley on a team flight, said he was standing up for his teammates.

MLB: Major League Baseball plans to start the 2019 and 2020 seasons in Asia and play regularseason games in England in June of both years. A two-game series between the Indians and Twins in Puerto Rico already has been announced for next April 17-18. Series in Mexico are planned for each April from 2018-21 and for May 2019 and 2021. are going their way. They’re in such a good spot right now as a club.”

Aroldis Chapman (4-1) worked around a pair of baserunners in the ninth to earn the victory. The hard-throwing closer threw 11 of his 13 pitches over 100 mph to earn his second win of the series. He has allowed just two hits and struck out six over his last five innings.

Lucas Duda homered for the second straight game since being traded from the Mets to the Rays. Peter Bourjos and Steven Souza Jr. also homered for the Rays, who fell for the eighth time in their last 10 games.

Dodgers: Cody Bellinger drove in both runs in a 2-1 win over the Giants. The Dodgers (73-31) have won seven in a row and are 42 games over .500 . ... Clayton Kershaw played catch for the second day in a row, a sign he might pitch before the four to six weeks floated when he went on the DL.

Rockies: German Marquez carried a perfect game into the sixth in a 4-2 victory over the Nationals. Marquez set down the first 16 before allowing three hits in the sixth. He struck out a career-high 10.

Diamondbacks: All-Star LHP Robbie Ray went on the concussion DL a day after he was hit in the head by a line drive hit by the Cardinals’ Luke Voit. 1968: Washington Senators shortstop Ron Hansen pulled off an unassisted triple play, but the Indians still won 10-1. 1980: Astros pitcher J.R. Richard had a stroke during a workout at the Astrodome and underwent surgery to remove a blood clot behind his right collarbone. 2012: Kendrys Morales homered from both sides of the plate during a nine-run sixth inning, capping the burst with a grand slam that sent the Angels romping past the Rangers 15-8. Morales became the third switch-hitter in major league history to homer as a lefty and righty in the same inning.
