Tammaro rallies Hopkins to 38-34 win

McDaniel, Stevenson, Salisbury all triumph

David Tammaro completed an 8-yard touchdown pass to Brett Caggiano with 24 seconds left to cap a seven-play, 73-yard drive that took just 54 seconds and rallied host Johns Hopkins foootball team past visiting Susquehann­a, 38-34, at Homewood Field Saturday afternoon.

The victory extends the Blue Jays’ regular-season winning streak to 43 games and their September streak to 29. Hopkins is also now 25-10 all-time in Centennial Conference openers and has now won 38 consecutiv­e conference games.

In a game the Blue Jays (2-0, 1-0) trailed 14-3 and 27-17, they came back and took a 31-27 lead on a two-yard touchdown run by Tammaro with 10:51 to play. That lead held for more than nine minutes before the River Hawks (1-1, 0-1) went 89 yards in 3:12 and took a 34-31 lead on a 44-yard touchdown pass from Nick Crusco to Diamente Holloway with 84 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter.

BOWIE STATE 31, WINSTONSAL­EM 13: Robert Chesson (Old Mill) had 19 carries for 95 yards and two touchdowns to lead the visiting Bulldogs (2-0) past the Rams (1-1).

Bowie State’s defense held Winston-Salem scoreless in the first half.

MCDANIEL 35, MORAVIAN 14: Will Koester completed 20 of 28 for 289 yards and two touchdown passes to lead the visiting Green Terror (2-0, 1-0 Centennial Conference) past the Greyhounds (0-2, 0-1).

The win marked the first at Bethlehem since 1978, snapping a streak of seven straight losses.

McDaniel had 500 yards of total offense and shut out Moravian in the final three quarters.

Eli Redmond led the Greyhounds with 65 yards rushing and 50 yards receiving.

STEVENSON 38, KING’S (PA.) 9: Dan Williams went 23-for-41 for 247 yards and four touchdown passes to lead the host Mustangs (1-1, 1-0 Middle Atlantic Conference) beat the Monarchs (1-1, 0-1).

With the win, Stevenson won its thirteenth straight game in the month of September and fifth straight home opener. It also marked the fourth straight win over King's.

Williams threw touchdown passes to Preston Addo, Devin Salisbury (Old Mill) and Dequan Ellison (Atholton).

SALISBURY 63, WILLIAM PATERSON 7: The host Sea Gulls (1-1, 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) took a 21-0 lead in the first six minutes and rolled past the Pioneers (0-2, 0-1).

Salisbury’s KaDarrius Campbell (9 of 42) and Michael Fowler (Perry Hall, 5 of 39) each rushed for two touchdowns.

FROSTBURG STATE 49, COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 14: Chad Gleason started the scoring with a 77-yard punt return and the host Bobcats (2-0, 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) rolled over the Lions (0-2, 0-1). Grayson Boyce and Jamaal Morant each had two rushing touchdowns for Frostburg State, which led 21-0 in the first quarter.
