Suzanne R. Whitmore, lawyer

Suzanne R. Whitmore, a lawyer who later worked in planned giving, died Sept. 25 of complications after cancer surgery at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

The longtime Columbia resident was 69.

Suzanne Rambo, the daughter of James E. Rambo Jr., a lawyer, and Rachel L. Rambo, an educator and administrator at Monsignor Slade Catholic School, was born in Baltimore and raised in Glen Burnie.

After graduating in 1968 from Archbishop Spalding High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in 1972 from the University of Baltimore, from which she earned her law degree six years later.

She practiced law with her father’s general-practice Glen Burnie firm, until 1988, when she went to work at Monsignor Slade Catholic School, also in Glen Burnie, working in the field of planned giving.

She subsequently joined the League of Baltimore in 1998, and ended her career in 2012 when she retired from the League of Baltimore.

She was married in 1971 to Robert W. Whitmore, a U.S. Department of Labor official, and the couple settled in Columbia.

She volunteered with Voices for Children of Howard County, for which she served as a courtappointed special advocate for youths.

Mrs. Whitmore, who was active in Scottish and Irish heritage organizations, was the public relations and marketing director of Clan Sinclair, USA. She also enjoyed playing the Irish fiddle and attending Celtic gatherings throughout the MidAtlantic region, as well as traveling and reading.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at the Witzke Funeral Home, 4112 Old Columbia Road, Ellicott City.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by three daughters, Kathryn Whitmore of Ellicott City, Rachel Whitmore of Washington and Sarah Whitmore of Charlotte, N.C.; a sister, Jean Rambo of Millersville; and four grandchildren.
