TD in last minute lifts FSU past Wake

Seminoles avoid 0-3 start with 26-19 victory over Demon Deacons

James Blackman shook off a struggle-filled day to connect with Auden Tate on a 40-yard touchdown throw with 53 seconds left, helping Florida State rally past host Wake Forest 26-19 on Saturday for its first win.

Blackman — the freshman pressed into a starting role due to injury earlier this year — had thrown for just 81 yards entering that final drive for the Seminoles (1-2, 1-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). But after the FSU defense forced a three-and-out, Blackman was perfect with the downfield shot to Auden.

Blackman had another big fourthquarter throw, a 43-yarder down the left sideline to Keith Gavin on a third-and-20. That ultimately set up Ricky Aguayo's 35-yard kick to tie it at 19 with 6:20 left.

Wake Forest (4-1, 1-1) had a final chance to tie, but John Wolford's desperation heave to the end zone for Scotty Washington fell incomplete to end it.

NO. 4 PENN STATE 45, INDIANA 14: DaeSean Hamilton caught nine passes for 122 yards with three touchdowns and became the Nittany Lions’ career receptions leader.

Host Penn State improved to 5-0, 2-0 Big Ten and the Hoosiers fell to 2-2, 0-2.

NO. 7 GEORGIA 41, TENNESSEE 0: Jake Fromm threw a touchdown pass and ran for two more scores as the visiting Bulldogs (5-0, 2-0 SEC) shut out the Volunteers (3-2, 0-2), which suffered its first shutout loss in nearly a quarter-century.

Tennessee was shut out for the first time since a 31-0 loss to Florida in 1994.

NO. 10 WISCONSIN 33, NORTHWESTERN 24: Jonathan Taylor ran for two touchdowns to help the offense overcome a sluggish start and the host Badgers (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) swarmed the Wildcats (2-2, 0-1) before holding on for a win.

NO. 17 LOUISVILLE 55, MURRAY STATE 10: Lamar Jackson had a short but productive day, throwing for 249 yards and three touchdowns after playing just over a half and the host Cardinals (4-1) routed the Racers (1-4).

The reigning Heisman Trophy winner, who had just one play after halftime, added 100 yards rushing and a touchdown on seven carries. He's now just 13 yards short of becoming the seventh player in Atlantic Coast Conference history to reach 10,000 total career yards.

NO. 18 SOUTH FLORIDA 61, EAST CAROLINA 31: Quinton Flowers threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and the visiting Bulls (5-0, 2-0 American Athletic Conference) extended their school-record winning streak to 10 by routing the Pirates (1-4, 1-1).

This was the Bulls' highest-scoring game since they hung 65 on Cincinnati two years ago.

NO. 21 FLORIDA 38, VANDERBILT 24: Lamical Perine scored three touchdowns, Malik Davis added two and the host Gators (3-1, 3-0 SEC) beat the Commodores (3-2, 0-2) despite losing quarterback Luke Del Rio for the season with a broken left collarbone.

NO. 22 NOTRE DAME 52, MIAMI (OHIO) 17: Brandon Wimbush threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as the host Fighting Irish (4-1) recorded the 900th victory in school history. The Red Hawks fell to 2-3. TROY 24, NO. 25 LSU 21: Jordan Chunn ran for 191 yards and a touchdown, Trojan defense forced four turnovers and Troy (4-1) upset the host Tigers (3-2).

Troy, which celebrated wildly with traveling fans in largely empty Tiger Stadium as time ran out, became the first team from outside the Southeastern Conference to win in LSU's Death Valley since UAB in 2000. They snapped the Tigers' streak of 49 straight home victories over nonleague opponents.

GEORGIA TECH 33, NORTH CAROLINA 7: The host Yellow Jackets (3-1, 2-0 ACC) played keep-away against the Tar Heels (1-4, 0-3), dominating the clock with its ball-control offense, and KirVonte Benson scored on a 63-yard run.
