Hopkins’ winning streak ends

Ursinus scores in final minute to halt Blue Jays’ 45-game run

Sophomore quarterback Thomas Garlick rushed 8 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 20 seconds left to lift host Ursinus to a 21-17 victory over Johns Hopkins at Patterson Field Saturday. Garlick’s touchdown run capped a 13-play, 74-yard drive that took 4:54 off the clock.

The loss snapped a 45-game regular season winning streak and a 40-game Centennial Conference winning streak for the Blue Jays, who slipped to 4-1 overall and 3-1 in the conference. The Blue Jays last lost a regular-season or Centennial Conference game on Nov. 3, 2012, when Fanklin & Marshall topped Johns Hopkins, 14-12.

The Bears stayed perfect at 5-0, 4-0.

BOWIE STATE 64, FAYETTEVILLE STATE 31: The visiting Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0 Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association) scored 20 or more points in the first three quarters and rolled past the Broncos (1-4, 1-2).

Bowie State’s Amir Hall completed 22 of 32 for 329 yards and four touchdown passes. Robert Chesson (Old Mill) had 15 carries for 173 yards and two rushing touchdowns.

This was the second-highest score of the season by Bowie State. The first was a 66-20 victory over St. Augustine’s on Sept. 16.

STEVENSON 65, MISERICORDIA 7: The host Mustangs (3-2, 3-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) held the Cougars (1-4, 1-3) to one scoring drive in the second quarter.

Dan Williams completed 26 of 37 for 396 yards and five touchdown passes for Stevenson, which led 27-7 in the first half. Preston Addo made six catches for 118 yards and two touchdown receptions.

The Mustangs had 674 yards of total offense. Misericordia had 281.

JUNIATA 42, MCDANIEL 41, OT: Austin Montgomery threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Matt Lehr and a two-point conversion pass to lift the visiting Eagles (2-3, 1-3 Centennial Conference) over the Green Terror (3-2, 2-2) in overtime.

Montgomery completed 18 of 31 for 219 yards and three touchdown passes. He also had seven rushes for 23 yards and one rushing touchdown. McDaniel’s Spencer Wiersberg made a 46-yard field goal in the closing 11 seconds of regulation to force overtime.

McDaniel took an early 7-0 lead before Juniata scored three times in a row for a 20-7 advantage.
