Maryland will host Glenville State today at noon in the first of two exhibition matches at the XFINITY Center. Sophomore Kaila Charles, selected to the preseason All-Big Ten team earlier this week, leads the Terps. Coach Brenda Frese and the Terps begin the season ranked No. 13 in the USA Today Sports Preseason Coaches poll. The Glenville State Pioneers, a Division II team, were picked to win the Mountain East Conference this season. The Pioneers return eight players who averaged 20 minutes last season from a team that went 24-6 and won the MEC regular season title. Maryland will host Bowie State in its final exhibition Friday at 6 p.m. Maryland opens its 2017-18 season Nov. 10 at 7 p.m. vs. Albany. in 1:11.79 at Laurel Park. MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Towson defeated Bucknell, 93-86, in a special exhibition at SECU Arena to raise money for hurricane relief. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Stevenson lost to Messiah, 4-0. Senior Jake Brown (John Carroll) recorded his 100th save for Stevenson . ... – Junior midfielder Kyle Gaeffke had a goal and an assist as visiting Washington College defeated Muhlenberg, 2-0 . ... Trevor Brookhart (Liberty) had the game winning save and penalty kick as Salisbury advanced in the CAC tournament with a shootout win over York. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SWIMMING: Washington College defeated visiting Franklin & Marshall, 134128, in the Centennial Conference opener for both teams. It was the Shorewomen’s first win over the Diplomats since 2007. MEN’S COLLEGE SWIMMING: Washington College edged visiting Franklin & Marshall, 135-127. Brett Edwards and Aidan Sullivan won two individual events each for the Shoremen. WOMEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL: Muhlenberg spoiled the season finale for visiting Washington College in a 25-12, 27-25, 25-21 win. Senior setter Taylor Horan had 26 assists and finished her career with 3,295, just eight short of the program record for most assists . ... No. 19 Stevenson downed Cabrini, 3-2 . ... Johns Hopkins closed the regular season with a 3-0 defeat of Franklin & Marshall. WOMEN’S COLLEGE ICE HOCKEY: Stevenson allowed four third period goals for the second straight game as the Mustangs fell to No. 3 Norwich, 7-0, in the Bulldog Bowl consolatio­n. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Stevenson senior Tiffany McKee (St. Paul’s) recorded 14 saves but seventh-ranked Messiah posted a 3-0 MAC Commonweal­th victory in the regular-season finale . ... A pair of second-half goals less than four minutes apart helped St. Mary’s defeat Mary Washington, 3-0, and clinch one of the four spots in the semifinals of the Capital Athletic Conference tournament. Kat Golladay had a goal and an assist. COLLEGE CROSS COUNTRY: Nicolas Fransham (eight place) and Isaac Kole (14th place) earned All-Northeast Conference honors to lead the Mount St. Mary’s men’s and women’s cross country teams at the NEC Championsh­ips. The Mountainee­r men’s team finished in fourth place while the women finished in seventh. —
