Norfolk State slips past Morgan State

Frostburg State wins; Bowie, Hopkins beaten

Aaron Savage rushed for two touchdowns including the go-ahead score in the fourth quarter and Norfolk State defeated host Morgan State 45-32 on Saturday in a season finale for both teams.

Savage capped a 12-play, 68-yard drive with an 11-yard run that gave the Spartans (4-7, 4-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) a 38-32 lead with just under 10 minutes to go. Juwan Carter threw a 24-yard touchdown pass to Isaiah Winstead with two minutes left to ensure the victory.

The Bears (1-10, 1-7) outgained Norfolk State 438-276 but had four turnovers. DeAndre Harris rushed for a touchdown and threw for three more but was intercepte­d twice. Herb Walker Jr. rushed for 139 yards and a touchdown on 20 carries.

DELTA STATE 45, BOWIE STATE 35: The host Bulldogs (9-2) took a four-point lead late in the third quarter, but the Statesmen (9-3) went on a 14-0 run in the fourth quarter to win the NCAA Division II Super Region 2 playoff game.

Chris Robinson had two rushing touchdowns in the closing six minutes for Delta State. Amir Hall threw two touchdown passes and rushed for two touchdowns for Bowie State.

FROSTBURG STATE 35, WITTENBERG 7: The visiting Bobcats (10-1) used tough defense to hold the Tigers (10-1) scoreless in three quarters and won an NCAA Division III first-round game.

Dante Chinnery had a 93-yard rushing touchdown on a fake punt in the fourth quarter for a 28-7 Frostburg State lead with 7:31 left in the game.

Frostburg will face Washington & Jefferson in the second round.

WASHINGTON & JEFFERSON 31, JOHNS HOPKINS 28: Mauricio Garibay made a 46-yard field goal with 57 seconds left that hit the cross bar and bounced over to lift the host Presidents (11-0) over the Blue Jays (9-2) in an NCAA Division III firstround game.

Johns Hopkins trailed for most of the first three quarters, but had a 28-21 lead after back-to-back touchdowns in a span of less than 90 seconds early in the fourth quarter gave the Blue Jays their first lead of the game.

ITHACA 27, SALISBURY 17: Tristan Brown had two rushing touchdowns during a 20-0 run in the fourth quartter by the Bombers (8-3) to beat the Sea Gulls (7-4) in the ECAC Division III Football Fest Scotty Whitelaw Bowl at Newark, Del. Baltimore Sun staff contribute­d to this article.
