Simeon engineers rally to beat Poly

Roland Park, John Carroll cruise in girls basketball; Curley wins in wrestling

Iowa State-bound Talen Horton-Tucker scored a game-high 34 points to lead Simeon (Ill.) in a come-from-behind victory over No. 5 Poly, 71-64, at the Charm City vs. Windy City Shootout Saturday.

The host Engineers (9-4) had a 10-point lead in the third quarter before the Wolverines (17-3) went on a run. Simeon is ranked No. 8 nationally in USA Today’s Super 25 poll.

“We thought we had the game under control in the third quarter,” Poly coach Sam Brand said. Rahim Ali led Poly with 19 points. GERSTELL 55, INDIAN CREEK 51: Gerstell handed Indian Creek its first loss. The Falcons opened with an 11-0 run and led by as many as 13 points in the fourth quarter over Indian Creek (15-1 overall, 10-1 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n B Conference) and held on to extend their winning streak to 10 games.

“We responded really well after having to come back and play the next afternoon,” Gerstell coach Ben Thompson said. “I would say it was one of our best games from start to finish. Our effort we put together was very consistent.”

Gerstell (12-8, 8-1) received balanced scoring and had three players in double figures: Khyle Washington (13 points, five rebounds), Anthony Carpenter (11 points, six rebounds) and Brad Witt (10 points, 11 rebounds, seven blocks).

Malik McKinney led Indian Creek with 20 points and teammate Khiyon Washington added 18.
