St. Paul’s grad Wynne sends Irish past Virginia

Albany men rout Vermont; BC women move to 10-0

Mikey Wynne (St. Paul’s) scored the game-tying and go-ahead goals to lead No. 4 Notre Dame to a 9-7 come-from-behind victory over No. 9 Virginia Saturday night in men’s lacrosse.

Wynne finished with four goals for the host Fighting Irish (4-1, 1-0 Atlantic Coast Conference). He tied the game at 7-7 with 14:08 left to play and scored the go-ahead with 12:20 left. Brendan Gleason scored the last goal with 53 seconds left. The Cavaliers fell to 6-2, 0-2.

NO. 1 ALBANY 21, NO. 12 VERMONT 5: Jakob Patterson had seven goals to lead the host Great Danes (6-0, 1-0 America East) past the Catamounts (7-1, 0-1). Albany opened with a 9-0 run.

NO. 5 DENVER 12, NO. 10 OHIO STATE 7: The host Pioneers (5-2) used a 9-0 run to pull away from the Buckeyes (5-3). Dylan Gaines (Boys’ Latin) had two groundball­s and two caused turnovers for Denver.

NO. 7 YALE 13, CORNELL 11: Jackson Morrill (McDonogh) and Ben Reeves each scored four goals to lead the visiting Bulldogs (5-1, 1-0 Ivy League) past the Big Red (3-3, 0-1).

Yale used a 3-0 run in the fourth quarter to pull away.

DREXEL 15, NO. 11 GEORGETOWN 10: Matthew Varian scored a career-high six goals and the host Dragons (3-4) upset the Hoyas (6-1).

Drexel scored seven straight in the second quarter and never trailed again.

NO. 15 ARMY WEST POINT 5, HOLY CROSS 3: AJ Barretto (St. Paul’s) had a career-high 14 saves and the host Black Knights (5-2, 2-1 Patriot League) beat the Crusaders (1-6, 0-4).

Barretto recorded his first-career point with an assist in the third quarter. He also had a caused turnover and three groundball­s.

NO. 16 LEHIGH 19, LAFAYETTE 11: The visiting Mountain Hawks (6-2, 4-0 Patriot) scored 11 goals in the second quarter and beat the Leopards (2-7, 0-4). Lucas Spence had four goals for Lehigh.

NO. 17 ROBERT MORRIS 12, SACRED HEART 8: Matt Schmidt had four goals to lead the host Colonials (5-2, 1-0 Northeast Conference) past the Pioneers (4-4, 0-1).
