Expressions Gala
Creating art, studying art history and having a distinct sense of fashion were all inter-related for Olivia Henry-Jackson, 22. The Loch Raven-Belvedere resident graduated from the Baltimore School for the Arts as a visual artist in 2013, then got her undergraduate degree in art history at American University.
“As a visual artist and art historian, I do consider fashion a form of art as well. Fashion designers — just like drawers and painters — put together colors and patterns and lines to create a final product. Me appreciating fashion is just me appreciating another form of art,” said the National Geographic Museum visitor services representative.
In the area of fashion, there was one particular historical icon whom Henry-Jackson said she admires.
“I do have a lot of photos and paintings of Audrey Hepburn photos in my room,” she said.
However, when she chose her outfit for the BSFA’s “Expressions Gala,” Henry-Jackson wanted to incorporate a different kind of art history and appreciation. “I was hoping get across my interest and personality; that I was a former art student at BSFA and bringing an art student vibe to a more classic outfit,” she said.
