Journeyman rider Victor Carrasco, the Eclipse Award-winning apprentice of 2013 sidelined for the past nine months by injury, will launch his latest comeback with a pair of mounts on today’s 10-race program at Laurel Park. Ranked among Maryland’s leading riders since coming to the U.S. from his native Puerto Rico in March 2013, Carrasco has not ridden in a race since breaking the fibula and tibia in his right leg in a five-horse spill at Delaware Park Sept. 14, 2017. Carrasco, who turns 26 on June 28, is named aboard Three Ms Racing’s Mythos, a 7-yearold gelding trained by Jonathan Maldonado, in today’s fifth race, a $17,000 claiming event for 3-yearolds and up going seven furlongs, and Fitzhugh LLC’s Maryland homebred Another Broad, a 3-yearold filly from the barn of trainer Mike Trombetta, in Race 7, a $33,000 waiver maiden claiming event at 6 furlongs. Carrasco was hurt when his mount, Really, fell while leading the field in the 1-mile turf race. Four other jockeys were thrown including 53-yearold Jose Ferrer, who was able to return from major internal injuries over the winter in Florida. LAUREL FEATURE: Tic Stables’ Split Time, making her open company debut in her first race outside of New York, overcame a troubled start to scoot between horses in mid-stretch and earn her second career stakes victory in Saturday’s $75,000 Alma North at Laurel Park. The seven-furlong Alma North for 3-year-old fillies highlighted a 12-race program as the first stakes of Laurel’s 40-day summer meet which opened June 1 and runs through Aug. 19. Ridden by Horacio Karamanos for trainer Linda Rice, Split Time ($8.40) completed the distance in 1:24.48 over a fast main track to win by three-quarters of a length over fast-closing 45-1 long shot Norma’s Charm. all-time leading scorer played this past season for Everton, which, amid a coaching change and roster moves, will not retain Rooney. He has one year left on his contract, necessitating an agreement between Everton and D.C. Quarterback Randy Hippeard threw for five touchdowns and was named the game’s most valuable player for the seventh time this season for the Brigade (7-2). Brigade fullback Rory Nixon was named offensive player of the game after rushing for a franchise-record three touchdowns. Defensive back Joe Powell won game defensive honors with six tackles, one interception returned for a touchdown. Valor quarterback Arvell Nelson, playing in his third game with the team, totaled five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) and accounted for 236 total yards. The Valor dropped to 1-8 on the season. The Brigade are back in action next Saturday, hosting the Albany Empire at 7:30 p.m. at Royal Farms Arena.
