It’s wet, wild, but Chapman prevails

-

NEW YORK — Rain pouring off his hat, Aroldis Chapman struck out Jurickson Profar with the bases loaded to end the game Saturday, preserving the Yankees’ 5-3 victory over the Rangers.

Rookie Miguel Andujar’s tworun homer broke a tie in the seventh, and Yankees newcomer Lance Lynn turned in another strong start. The Yankees have won five of six.

Acquired from the Twins on July 30 for infielder Tyler Austin, Lynn was solid in his second start as a Yankee. He allowed one run in five innings and struck out eight while issuing three walks.

Chapman took over to begin the ninth, and the Rangers loaded the bases with two outs on a walk, a single and a hit batter. Chapman fell behind Profar 3-1, then came back to get him to swing through strike three for his 30th save in 32 chances.

Profar also struck out with runners on second and third to end the seventh. The Rangers had tied it 3-3 earlier that inning after recently acquired reliever Zach Britton was shaky again.

Britton, acquired from the Orioles shortly before the trade deadline, walked home a run in the seventh and was pulled. Britton has allowed five runs on six hits and six walks in 6 ⁄3

1 innings since joining the Yankees.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his 29th home run, connecting for the fourth time in five games. Breaking out of a 4-for-40 slump, Greg Bird doubled twice.

A day after hitting three home runs, Rangers rookie Ronald Guzman went 0-for-2 with two walks. Shin-Soo Choo had three hits and scored twice for the Rangers.

In a matchup of left-handers, the Rangers will send Martin Perez (2-4, 6.15) against CC Sabathia (6-4, 3.49) in the series finale Sunday.
