Ehrlich hurls Broadneck past Bowie in football; Arundel rolls

Freshman quarterbac­k Josh Ehrlich, son of former Governor Bob Ehrlich, connected with Andre Woods Jr. and Ethon Williams on touchdown passes, and Jason Carcamo scored on a 4-yard run to lift Broadneck to a 21-13 victory over Bowie on Saturday in the season opener for both teams. The game was a continuati­on from Friday night after heavy storms halted games around the region.

After Bowie had taken a 7-0 lead on a 1-yard run by Aju Kalu, the Bruins got even on a 65-yard scoring pass from Ehrlich to Woods. Broadneck took the lead for good on Carcamo’s run with 21 seconds left in the first half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Broadneck made it 21-7 as Williams caught a 4-yard scoring pass from Ehrlich early in the fourth quarter.

Bowie completed the scoring on a Rodney Manning 3-yard run with 3:08 left.

Ehrlich completed 12 of 28 attempts for 159 yards. Carcamo ran 17 times for 65 yards, while Woods had three catches for 99 yards and Williams had 61 yards on seven catches.

Also for Broadneck, Vincent Facciponti converted all three point-after attempts.

ST. VINCENT PALLOTTI AT NO. 9 CALVERT HALL: The game between the host Cardinals (1-0) and the Panthers (0-0) was suspended because of lightning. Calvert Hall was leading 10-0 and the game will resume Monday at 10 a.m. The Cardinals will host Wise on Friday at 7 p.m.

ARUNDEL 42, PERRY HALL 21: Austin Slye ran for 128 yards on 17 carries, including two 1-yard touchdowns and threw for three more to lead the Wildcats to the victory over the Gators to earn Jack Walsh his first victory as the head coach..

Slye, who went 21-31 for 272 yards, connected with Chaz Goodman (nine catches, 89 yards) for a 20-yard score, hit Jeremy Weinstein (3-70) for a 44-yard strike and completed his day through the air with a 10-yard connection with RJ Chandler.Dominick Bramante picked off an errant Perry Hall aerial and returned it for a score and Clint Mills kicked four extra points for Arundel (1-0).

CATONSVILL­E 32, SPARROWS POINT 6: It took two days and overcoming the loss of starting quarterbac­k Javon Williams for 2006 Catonsvill­e High graduate Jaren Maybin to earn his first victory as the host Comets new head coach.

Maybin, who is the school’s all-time leading rusher, had to wait until late Saturday morning to celebrate the victory over Sparrows Point.

The Comets were leading the Pointers, 16-0, on Friday night with 2:50 remaining in the first half when the game was suspended because of heavy rain and thundersto­rms.

It was resumed at 10 a.m. on Saturday morning. and two sacks. Vernon Brown went 12-for-28 for 183 yards and two touchdowns. Franklin was leading 5-0 in the second quarter Friday night when the game was postponed because of weather.
