The Maryland men’s soccer team fell to UCLA, 1-0, Saturday at Ludwig Field. It was fourth-consecutive match for the Terps (0-2-2) against an opponent receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches poll. “I told my players that I believe in them,” Terps coach Sasho Cirovski said. “We just played four really good teams, and a highly motivated UCLA team after the results in the past few years. There is no shame in losing to a very good UCLA team, but we’re better than that. It’s a long season and we now just have to find a way into the back of the net.” After a scoreless opening half, UCLA (3-1) took the lead with a goal in the 52nd minute. Mohammed Kamara connected on a ball swung in by teammate Erik Holt. Redshirt junior goalie Dayne St. Clair was able to keep the Terps within striking distance, making five saves. The goal was just the third St. Clair has allowed this season, and the first since the first half of Maryland’s season opener at No. 24 Washington. Maryland plays Monday at 7 p.m. when it hosts West Virginia at Ludwig Field. FIELD HOCKEY: Third-ranked Maryland used its offensive balance to defeat 12th-ranked Delaware, 5-3, Saturday in the first game of the Terrapin Invitational. Five Terps scored to help Maryland (6-0) win its third straight match over a ranked team. Maryland is off to its best start since 2013 . ... Former Redskins receiver Santana Moss ndwill be one of the keynote speakers at Howard Community College’s Howard P.R.I.D.E. program will host its third annual Black Male Summit on Thurday at noon. Keenan Harrell, the community relations coordinator for the Baltimore Ravens, also will be featured. The event ushers in the 2018-2019 academic year for P.R.I.D.E. participants and celebrates the accomplishments of the previous academic year. The summit also supporSt creating pathways to connect and build relationships with faculty, staff, and other students. The event at HCC’s Smith Theatre, located within the Horowitz Visual and Performing Arts Center, is free and open to the public.
