Akron zips past Morgan State; Bowie prevails

DeAndre Harris had a 1-yard touchdown run with 11 seconds left to avoid the shutout as visiting Morgan State fell 41-7 to Akron in football Saturday. The Zips improved to 1-0 and the Bears fell to 0-2.

BOWIE STATE 38, ALDERSON BROADDUS 31: The visiting Bulldogs improved to 1-1 and the Battlers fell to 0-2.

FROSTBURG STATE 47, COLLEGE OF NEW JERSEY 7: The Bobcats (2-0, 1-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference ) opened with a 41-0 run and rolled over the Lions (0-2, 0-1). Frostburg’s defense held College of New Jersey to 179 yards of total offense. Bobcat quarterbac­k Connor Cox (South River) completed 12 of 20 passes for 206 yards and three touchdowns.

SUSQUEHANN­A 37, JOHNS HOPKINS 35: The host River Hawks (2-0, 1-0 Centennial Conference) used a 16-0 run in the second half to take the lead and down the Blue Jays (1-1, 0-1). Torey Brown (11-for-44) had two rushing touchdowns, including the go-ahead.

MORAVIAN 14, MCDANIEL 9: The Greyhounds (2-0, 1-0 Centennial) scored a first-quarter defensive touchdown and added a 9-yard running score in the third quarter to beat the host Green Terror (1-1, 0-1). Neither team broke 200 yards of total offense in the sloppy conditions.

STEVENSON 35, BRIDGEWATE­R 23: Dan Williams completed 23-for-35 passes for 271 yards and two touchdowns to lead the visiting Mustangs (1-1) past the Eagles (1-1).
