Green Terror surge to win over Juniata, 24-21

Delaware Valley turns back Stevenson; Johns Hopkins, Salisbury win in routs

McDaniel roared from behind to get past Juniata for a 24-21 victory in Centennial Conference play on Saturday in Huntingdon, Pa. The Green Terror offense finished with 321 yards of total offense while the defense recorded eight sacks as McDaniel (3-2, 2-1 CC) outscored its host 17-7 in the second half.

John Chamberlin carried the ball 20 times for 94 yards and a touchdown for McDaniel and Ray Doh led the defense with two sacks. Kofi Siga had a career-high 10 tackles and a forced fumble.

Isaac Murray (Atholton) had an 8-yard touchdown run for McDaniel.

AJ Brocato (Patterson Mill) caught five passes for 106 yards, including a touchdown, to lead Juniata (0-5).

DELAWARE VALLEY 31, STEVENSON 20: Delaware Valley, the No. 20 team in Division III, overcame an early 17-0 deficit to defeat Stevenson in Middle Atlantic Conference play at Mustang Stadium.

Stevenson dropped to 3-2 and 2-1 in the MAC, while the Aggies improved to 4-1 and 3-0 in the MAC.

The Stevenson defense recorded a takeaway for the 60th consecutive game.

Chaz Lyles finished with six receptions for 70 yards for the Mustangs.

JOHNS HOPKINS 52, URSINUS 6: Host Johns Hopkins sprinted to a 21-6 first quarter lead in its Centennial Conference showdown with previously unbeaten Ursinus and never looked back at Homewood Field. Hopkins had eight scoring drives of 60 yards or longer and rolled up 665 yards of total offense against an Ursinus defense that entered the game allowing just 12 points and 226.5 yards per game.

The Blue Jays (4-1, 3-1 Centennial) led just 7-6 after Thomas Garlick hit Ryan Loughlin behind the Blue Jay defense with a 75-yard touchdown pass just 11 seconds after Hopkins had opened the scoring with a six-yard scoring run by Stuart Walters midway through the first quarter.

By the time the period ended, Hopkins had added a 15-yard touchdown reception by sophomore Zac Fernandez and another six-yard touchdown run from Walters to cap scoring drives of 72 and 59 yards. The Fernandez touchdown came on a fourthand-10 play and was the first of two fourth-down scores the Blue Jays would have on the day.

While the Blue Jays were busy scoring touchdowns on six of their eight first-half touchdowns, the Johns Hopkins defense was taking over on the other side of the ball. Save for the one-play, 75-yard drive touchdown drive on their second possession, five of UC’s first eight drives ended in punts and two more ended with Blue Jay interceptions.

BOWIE STATE 20, WINSTON-SALEM STATE 17: The Bulldogs trailed the entire game, but senior Amir Hall connected with fellow senior Lansana Sesay for 34 yard touchdown with 1:14 remaining to pull out a dramatic home debut victory. Bowie State improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, while Winston-Salem State fell to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in the CIAA.

Hall completed 28 of 52 passes for a touchdown and 281 yards and also carries 11 times for 59 yards. Brandon Abrams scored a rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs and Sesay had 10 receptions for 117 yards and the winning score.

Joshu Pryor led the Bowie defense with seven tackles and Roger Richardson and DeVonta’ High each had six tackles.

SALISBURY 42, WILLIAM PATERSON 0: The Sea Gulls posted their second shutout this season, for their third New Jersey Athletic Conference victory.

Jack Navitsky and De’John Broadwater each posted 100-plus yard rushing performances as Navitsky totaled a team-best 130 yards on 19 carries to lead the team. Broadwater rushed for 101 yards on just nine carries and added two touchdowns to his stat line, which tied him for a team-best with Kadarrius Campbell.

The Sea Gulls (4-0, 3-0 NJAC) jumped to a 14-0 lead in the first quarter behind touchdown runs from both Campbell and Broadwater. After forcing one of three William Paterson three-and-outs on the afternoon Navitsky marched the Salisbury offense on a five-play 46-yard touchdown drive that culminated with a 15-yard run by Campbell for the 7-0 lead.

Salisbury doubled its lead on its very next drive, this time embarking on a 7-yard touchdown drive that took under three minutes off the clock. Navitsky did most the work accounting for 49 of the 70 yards on three straight running plays including a 37-yard scamper on second down to get the maroon and gold to the Pioneer 29-yard line. Broadwater would finish off the drive with his first touchdown of the afternoon scoring from 17 yards out to push the advantage to 14-0.

The Gulls took a 21-0 lead into the half off a 13-yard touchdown strike from Navitsky to Cameron Carlyle, their second touchdown connection in the last three games, with just two seconds left to play in the half.
