It took an extra day for host Liberty to be crowned Carroll County Athletic League football champion — and make a little county history in the process.

The Lions held on to defeat Century 7-0 and win its second CCAL championship in three seasons. Liberty (6-0 Carroll) also became the fifth team in Carroll history to go 10-0 in the regular season.

The annual regular-season finale was halted midway through the third quarter Friday night because of inclement weather. The game resumed Saturday with the visiting Lions leading by one score.

Wide receiver Chris Darminio caught a 31-yard pass from quarterback Nate Kent as time expired in the first half Friday. Darminio was surrounded by a trio of Knights (6-4, 4-2) when he came up with the ball in the end zone. Sean Disbrow kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead before the game was later suspended.

In the end, that one play was all the Lions needed.

ANNAPOLIS AREA CHRISTIAN 36, ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC PREP 26: Sam Akinmukomi had two rushing touchdowns to lead the host Eagles (4-3, 3-2 Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association C Con- ference) past the Vikings (4-4, 1-4).

TOWSON 54, PIKESVILLE 0: The host Generals (8-2) won their eighth straight by beating the Panthers (1-7).
