Tom Flacco’s three TD passes power Towson

Tigers rout Elon, 41-10; Morgan State shuts out Delaware State; Bowie wins

Tom Flacco threw three touchdown passes, Aidan O'Neill set a single-season field goal record and Towson dominated Elon 41-10 on Saturday in a key Colonial Athletic Associatio­n game.

Flacco, who was 26 of 43 for 326 yards, connected with Chris Clark and Shane Leatherbur­y to give the Tigers (7-3, 5-2) at 14-3 lead at the half. Flacco found Leatherbur­y early in the third for his 25th touchdown pass of the season, second most in Towson history. Flacco is three scoring passes behind school hall of famer Dan Crowley (1994). Jabari Allen had nine catches for 143 yards.

Towson, ranked 20th in the FCS coaches' poll, piled up 486 yards and held Elon, ranked fifth, to 238 on the way to the Tigers' largest win of the season. Robert Heyward had 13 tackles for Towson. The loss knocked the Phoenix (6-3, 4-2) out of a three-way tie for the CAA lead

MORGAN STATE 9, DELAWARE STATE 0: Joshua Chase ran 18 times for 145 yards and the game's lone touchdown and host Bears (3-7, 2-4 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) ended a three-game losing streak.

With 8:30 to play before halftime, Chase broke free for a 75-run and Morgan State made it hold up defensivel­y limiting the Hornets (2-8, 2-5) to 182 total yards.

The Hornets ran the ball 37 times and were limited to 65 yards rushing — a 1.8 yards-percarry average. The Bears now have won nine of the last 11 meetings against Delaware State since 2008, including eight straight.

BOWIE STATE 30, FAYETTEVIL­LE STATE 10: Amir Hall had two of this three rushing touchdowns in the first quarter for a 14-0 lead and the host Bulldogs (9-2) beat FS (6-3) in the Central Intercolle­giate Athletic Associatio­n championsh­ip in Salem, Va. Hall completed 15 of 26 passes for a 180 yards and a touchdown pass.

STEVENSON 34, FDU-FLORHAM 0: The host Mustangs (8-2, 7-1 Middle Atlantic Conference) used tough defense to limit the Devils (6-4, 4-4) to a program-record 45 yards of offense in their fourth shutout of the season. Ty Crabb went 16-for-29 for 188 yards and two touchdown passes.

JOHNS HOPKINS 42, MCDANIEL 17: The host Blue Jays (9-1, 8-1 Centennial Conference) extended its winning streak to eight games and secured a share of a 10th straight conference title by beating the Green Terror (3-7, 2-7). Hopkins also clinched the league's automatic bid to the upcoming NCAA Playoffs with the victory.

FROSTBURG STATE 38, SALISBURY 35, OT: Jeremy Harrison kicked a 37-yard field goal to lift the host Bobcats (9-0, 8-0 New Jersey Athletic Conference) over the Sea Gulls (8-2, 7-2) in overtime to claim the Regents Cup.

Connor Cox (South River) completed a 22-yard touchdown pass to Lincoln Ikwubuo with 1:37 left to tie the score at 35 and force overtime. Cox finished 12 of 23 for 215 yards and four touchdown passes. Frostburg State finished 9-0 for the first time in program history, won the conference title and secured an automatic bid to the NCAA D III playoffs.
