Hartshorn sends Maryland past Syracuse in OT

Junior Kali Hartshorn took a pass from junior Hannah Warther (Century) and scored the winning goal to give the No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse team a 12-11 overtime win over No. 4 Syracuse on Saturday afternoon.

Maryland's third victory over a top-five opponent this season is also the 80thstraig­ht in College Park, as the Terps haven't lost a home game since 2012.

Senior Jen Giles (Mount Hebron) led Maryland with five points in the win, tallying three goals and two assists while also securing four draw controls and a team-best two groundball­s. Graduate student Erica Evans, senior Caroline Steele (Severn) and sophomore Grace Griffin (Liberty) all contribute­d with two goals while junior Brindi Griffin (McDonogh) notched two points with a goal and an assist for Maryland (6-0).

NO. 14 NAVY 18, BROWN 12: Kelly Larkin potted a team-high six goals and Andie O’Sullivan added a season-best five goals to lead the Midshipmen (5-2) over Brown (2-4). Navy trailed 3-1 early in the first half, but closed out the final 24 minutes of the half on a 10-2 run to take control of the game.

MT. ST. MARY’S 13, RADFORD 5: Zoe Hurlburt (Fallston) registered a career-high four goals, and the trio of Emily Davis, Taylor Carhart (Manchester Valley) and Beanie Colson (Manchester Valley) scored two apiece for the Mountainee­rs (4-2).

UMBC 11, TEMPLE 9: Abby Wilson (Fallston), Alyssa Semones (Westminste­r) and Kristen Bilney (Mount Hebron) each tallied a hat trick, while freshman Jennie Milligan (South River) added five assists, to lead the Retrievers (4-4) over the Owls.

MCDANIEL 19, FROSTBURG ST. 4: Lyndsey Farrell (Loch Raven) accounted for five goals, an assist, four draw controls and two caused turnovers for the Green Terror, who opened the game on an 8-1 run and led by double digits for most of the second half in the win over the Bobcats.

NO. 5 SALISBURY 15, WASHINGTON COLLEGE 8: Taylor Poore (Perryville) had three goals and Alexis Strobel (Bel Air) added a goal and an assist as the host Sea Gulls built a 9-3 halftime lead on its way to the win over the Shorewomen (1-2).

NO. 10 JOHNS HOPKINS 15, HOFSTRA 11: Mackenzie Heldberg accounted for four goals and two assists, while Maggie Schneidere­ith (Towson) added three goals and four assists to guide the Blue Jays past the Pride. Aurora Cordingley provided three goals, Shelby Harrison (St. Mary’s) pitched in with a goal, five draw controls and three groundball­s and Ellie McNulty (Broadneck) registered a goal and three draw controls for Johns Hopkins (6-1).

HOOD 11, SUSQUEHANN­A 10: Laura Skorobatsc­h (Northeast) tallied four goals and caused two turnovers for the Blazers.

NO. 3 NORTH CAROLINA 13, NO. 5 VIRGINIA 12: The Tar Heels scored two goals in the final seven minutes to overcome a one-goal deficit and beat the Cavaliers.

NO. 6 PENN 8, NO. 20 GEORGETOWN 7: Francesca Whitehurst (Roland Park) delivered three goals and three draw controls, but the Hoyas fell to the Quakers.

NO. 8 PRINCETON 15, NO. 17 STONY BROOK 14: Tess D’Orsi potted the gamewinnin­g goal with 2:06 to go and Sam Fish’s 13th save off a shot from in front of the cage with 35 seconds left gave the Tigers a dramatic come-from-behind victory over the Seawolves.

NO. 19 PENN STATE 11, ALBANY 9: Senior Delaney Muldoon and junior Kristin Roberto each tallied a career-high three goals as the Nittany Lions took control with a 7-1 run to start the second half.
