Director’s Cut: A Celebration of Jed Dietz

Reservoir Hill resident Radha Blank’s style clearly reflects her roots in New York City, where the filmmaker/writer/performer still spends much of her time.

“I definitely feel — as a New Yorker — black is my go-to. I even love playing with texture in just black. You can dress up anything when you’re wearing black. I keep my form simple with tapering and add pops of color, accenting with accessories. I love jewelry,” she said. Professionally, Blank’s career has been all about messages, whether she’s writing for TV shows like “The Get Down,” “Empire,” or “She’s Gotta Have It,” performing onstage as hip-hop comedy artist RadhaMUSprime, or now working on her film “The 40-Year-Old Version” (for which she won a grant through the Maryland Film Festival). But, she admitted, her clothing has messages attached, as well. “I have a voice. I have something to say, for sure. I think people have told me that there are things about me that intimidate them. My laugh. Or sometimes I have that New York furrowed brow. So I feel like the pops of color, the style, and the red [lipstick] are a little more inviting. There’s whimsy here.
