Wizards’ Thomas ejected after walking into stands
76ERS 125, WIZARDS 108
PHILADELPHIA – While the Washington Wizards were being marched back by the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday night, point guard Isaiah Thomas walked into the stands.
During a timeout with 2:53 remaining in the Wizards’ 125-108 loss, Thomas left the court and entered Section 120. Thomas did not appear to have words with a fan inside Wells Fargo Center, nor did he enter the section with intended malice.
However, Thomas walked up several seats before security rushed to retrieve him.
Following a review, Thomas was ejected from the game.
The strange ejection highlighted what would have been a typical December night for the Wizards.
As he typically does, Scott Brooks shared a witty one-liner while meeting with reporters before the matchup.
In a response to a question about spending holidays away from home, Brooks revealed he had gone three decades — as a player and coach in the NBA — without seeing family around those seasons.
Smiling, Brooks asked the assembled media if that registered any pity. Silence ensued then Brooks posed a light-hearted question about his Wizards who have collected only two wins in the month.
“What about our record? You guys feel sorry for me,” Brooks joked.
Unfortunately for Brooks, the Wizards earned no sympathy from the 76ers. Behind a deep and super-sized starting lineup, the Sixers dropped Washington to a seventh loss in eight games.
The Wizards, now 8-20, showed their usual symptoms for games played in December.
Their defense only temporarily halted, but never completely stopped the opponent, as Philadelphia made 52.1 percent of its shots.
They wasted an all-around effort from Bradley Beal, who scored a game-high 36 points and finished with eight rebounds and six assists.
