Late goal lifts Terps to victory vs. Albany

Logan Wisnauskas (Boys’ Latin) scored his fifth goal with 5 minutes, 8 second remaining and No. 7 Maryland men’s lacrosse team hung on to win 14-13 over visiting Albany on Saturday.

Wisnauskas’ last goal gave the Terps (5-1) a 14-11 lead and the Great Danes (2-3) scored two goals over the final five minutes to draw within one.

Maryland started on a 3-0 run, with two goals by Jared Bernhardt. He finished with four goals and the Terps never trailed. Albany put together a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter.

No. 1 Syracuse 15, Johns Hopkins 9: The visiting Orange (5-0) broke a 1-1 tie with a 6-0 run in the first quarter to take control and hand the Blue Jays (1-4) their fourth straight loss.

Chase Scanlan, a transfer from Loyola Maryland, scored five goals and Jamie Trimboli had four goals for Syracuse. Owen Murphy had a hat trick for Hopkins, which hosts Mount St. Mary’s at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

“A very good win for us today,” Orange coach John Desko said. “I think anytime you come to Homewood and leave with a win, that’s a good thing.” No. 12 Georgetown 16, Towson 4: The visiting Hoyas (6-0) used tough defense to limit the Tigers (0-6) to one goal per quarter.

Goal scorers for Towson were Brody McLean, Grey Ey (Boys’ Latin), Jon Mazza (Calverton) and Andrew Milani (St. Paul’s). Georgetown opened with a 6-0 run and was never threatened.

Jake Carraway (St. Mary’s), Dylan Watson and Graham Bundy Jr. each had three goals for the Hoyas. Owen McElroy made nine saves for the win. UMBC 19, High Point 13: Ryan Frawley scored six goals and Tommy Lingner made nine saves as the host Retrievers (4-1) beat the Panthers (2-6). UMBC has won four straight and improved to 4-1 for the first time since 2001.

The Retrievers travel to Vermont on Saturday at 3 p.m.

Mount St. Mary’s 11, Utah 10, OT: Luke Frankeny completed his hat trick with 1:07 left in overtime to lift the host Mount (3-4) over the Utes (3-3).

Joe Bethke gave Mount St. Mary’s 1 10-9 lead with 2:29 left to play. Utah’s James Sexton scored the tying goal with 1:20 left in the game to force overtime. Brenden McCarthy finished with three goals for the Mount. McDaniel 21, Allegheny 8: Carson Marshall (Glenelg) scored the first two goals of the game and finished with six to lead the host Green Terror (2-3) past the Gators (1-3). Patrick Hogan had six goals for Allegheny.

St. Mary’s 15, Eastern 8: Kyrle Preis (5-1) made seven saves and Jack Brocato (St. Paul’s) and Jeremiah Clemmer each had four goals to lead the host Seahawks (5-1) past the Eagles (2-4). The victory was their fourth straight.

Stockton 14, Washington College 11: The host Ospreys (5-0) used a 4-0 run in the first quarter to take the lead for good and beat the Shoremen (0-5). Joe Tobin had five goals and an assist for Washington College, which hosts Illinois Wesleyan on Wednesday at 4 p.m. Arcadia 21, Goucher 13: The visiting Knights (4-2) went on a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter and beat the Gophers (3-3). The loss ended a three-game winning streak.

Matt Woodson (McDonogh) had five goals and two assists for Goucher. Christopher Newport 14, Stevenson 13: The host Captains (5-1) went on a 5-3 run in the fourth quarter to beat the Mustangs (1-3). Will Smith had four goals and Ethan Christensen had four assists for Stevenson, which will host Franklin & Marshall in the Mustang Classic Friday at 8:30 p.m,

St. Vincent 12, Hood 9: The host Bearcats (3-1) won their third straight and beat the Blazers (2-2).

Hood will face Centenary (N.J.) Tuesday at Virginia Beach, Virginia.
