Fiedler flurry helps Greyhounds stay perfect

Sam Fiedler (Garrison Forest) broke the fourth and final tie with 26 minutes, 37 seconds left and started a four-goal run as No. 3 Loyola Maryland won 19-15 over No. 9 Penn on Saturday in women’s lacrosse.

The host Greyhounds stayed perfect at 5-0 and the Quakers fell to 4-1.

Fiedler, who finished with five goals and scored her 100th career goal, broke a 7-7 tie with 29:35 left in the second half and Loyola took a 9-7 lead, but Penn scored twice to knot the score at 9-9 with 27:09 left to play.

Emily Wills had three goals and five assists for Loyola.

No. 15 Maryland 16, Hofstra 11: Maddie McSally (Glenelg) had a career-high 16 saves to lead the host Terps (3-3) past the Pride (4-2). Brindi Giffin (McDonogh) had five goals and Libby May (Hereford) had four for Maryland, which won its second straight after losing three in a row.

Johns Hopkins 13, St. Joseph’s 10: Mackenzie Heldberg scored four goals and Shelby Harrison (St. Mary’s) and Aurora Cordingley each had three to lead the visiting Blue Jays (4-3) past the Hawks (4-3). Hopkins used a 4-0 first-half run to take control. Mount St. Mary’s 12, Lafayette 9: The visiting Mount (5-1) scored five goal in each half and beat the Leopards (4-2).

Alayna Pagnotta (Glenelg) had a hat trick and Beanie Colson (Manchester Valley),

Erin Anderson (Westminste­r) and Jordan Butler (John Carroll) each scored twice for Mount St. Mary’s.

Temple 10, UMBC 7: The host Owls (5-3) used a balanced offense to score five goals per half and beat the Retrievers (2-3). Megan Halczuk, Lily Kennedy (Marriotts Ridge) and Olivia Docal each scored two goals for UMBC.

Salisbury 16, Washington College 7: Erin Scannell (John Carroll) scored four goals and Lydia McNutty had three to lead the visiting Sea Gulls (3-1) over the Shorewomen (1-2). Skye Graham (3-1, C. Milton Wright) made five saves for the win.

Colleen Keefe (Notre Dame Prep) had a hat trick for Washington College.

Goucher 15, Neumann 5: Shannon Stull (Francis Scott Key) scored five goals and Gabrielle Umstead had four to lead the visiting Gophers (3-2) past the Knights (0-3). Abbie McHerron made eight saves for Goucher.

McDaniel 19, Susquehann­a 13: The Green Terror (1-2) beat the River Hawks (3-2) at US Lacrosse in Sparks.

Bryn Mawr 12, Notre Dame Maryland 11: Sara Morales (Catholic) scored her gamehigh fifth goal for the host Gators (1-1) to tie the game at 11-11 with 9:32 left, but the Owls (4-0) answered as Sloan Johnson scored the game-winner with 8:40 left in the game. Notre Dame Maryland will host Goucher Tuesday at 4 p.m.

Shenandoah 14, St. Mary’s 12: Kelly Emge (Fallston) scored her third goal for a 12-11 Seahawks’ lead with 5:28 remaining, but the Hornets (5-0) went on a 3-0 run over the final 4:22 to win. Kate Bartholome­w scored five goals for St. Mary’s (3-2).

Lynchburg 17, Hood 8: The visiting Hornets (2-1) jumped out to a 12-2 lead in the first half and cruised past the Blazers (2-4).

Cassidy O’Neill, Rebecca Turner and Laura Skorobatsc­h (Northeast) each scored twice for Hood.

No. 2 Notre Dame 11, Boston College 7: Andie Aldave (McDonogh) had a hat trick to lead the host Fighting Irish (6-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) past the Eagles (3-3, 0-1). Notre Dame extended its one-goal lead in the second half by outscoring Boston College 7-4.

No. 5 Florida 17, High Point 10: Brianna Harris (Broadneck) scored five goals and Shannon Kavanagh had four to lead the host Gators (5-2) past the Panthers (1-4).

Florida trailed 4-2 before going on a 6-0 run.

Duke 16, No. 10 Virginia 10: The host Blue Devils (5-3, 1-1 ACC) outscored the Cavaliers (5-3, 0-2), 10-5, in the second half to win.

Katie Cronin had a game-high five goals for Duke and Sammy Mueller and Taylor Regan each scored three for Virginia.
