Eagles quarterback Jalen Hurts has yet to officially be named the team’s starting quarterback, let alone be viewed as a franchise quarterback by the organization. However, his performance on the field and in the locker room could be changing some people’s minds.

ESPN analyst Jordan Schultz tweeted that Hurts is quickly beginning to win over more people on the team, with many believing that he can be the quarterback of the future. Schultz added that Hurts’ skill, along with his work ethic and other intangibles, is being noticed by his teammates, who are “blown away” with what Hurts is doing on and off the field.

Hurts’ leadership and ability to build chemistry with his teammates has never been in question. Hurts will have to prove that he can consistently play at a high level on the field and continue developing areas of his game, such as accuracy.

Hurts started the last four games of the 2020 season, completing 52% of his passes for 1,061 yards, six touchdowns, and four interceptions. During training camp, Hurts’ release has looked quicker than it did last season, accuracy has improved with each practice, and it seems as if he has a good grasp of the offense, recognizing oncoming blitzes and changing the play.

Hurts has taken every snap with the firstteam offense and figures to get at least one year to prove that he can play at the level a franchise quarterback should.

Trade rumors have surrounded the Eagles, with the team being linked to Houston Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson. However, with Watson dealing with allegations of sexual misconduct, it will be tough to know when he would be available to play, given that the outcome of the investigations has not been decided and is still ongoing.

If Hurts can consistently move the offense down the field and keep the Eagles in games this season, the team could very well use most of the 10 draft picks they have in the 2022 draft to continue to build around him and help him reach his potential.
