Arturo “Art” Rivera, age 80, of Ellicott City passed away October 20, 2021. He was the loving husband of JoAnne (Fleisher) Rivera. He was born and raised in Mission, Texas, the second eldest of twelve children. He was predecease­d by his parents, Fernando and Maximina (Sanchez) Rivera, and his brothers Cruz (infant) and Fernando Junior. His father was a citrus rancher and his mother a housewife. He is survived by six sisters, three brothers, their spouses and many nieces and nephews. He

worked on the family farm alongside his siblings in his early years while attending local schools. He left home to attend college at Texas A&M, entered the US Marine Corps and following an honorable discharge, worked in Indiana for the USDA. He then joined the FBI, a career spanning twenty-seven years, retiring as Deputy Assistant Director. He was the assistant special agent in charge of the Baltimore FBI office before his transfer to Washington, DC. He was the Past Post Commander of the J Edgar Hoover Post 56, American Legion, a member of Resurrecti­on Church Knights of Columbus and the Society of Former Special Agents of FBI. He was also a classic car enthusiast and an avid golfer.

A gathering of friends will be held at St Paul Catholic Church, 3755 St Paul Street, Ellicott City, MD 21943, on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, from 10 – 11 AM, where a Memorial Mass will begin at 11 AM. Interment private. Contributi­ons in Art’s name can be made to either Wounded Warriors Project or US Marine Corps, Toys for Tots Foundation.
