Severn rallies to beat St. Paul’s

Here’s a roundup of high school varsity action Friday, April 1.

Boys lacrosse

Severn 11, St. Paul’s 8: Andrew Beard netted a goal and four assists while Justin Queen notched a hat trick as the Admirals overcame a 6-2 deficit by scoring six unanswered goals to defeat the Crusaders. Trey Dring and Chase Hallam each scored two goals, Carter Johnson and Luke Hayes had a goal and an assist apiece, Jackson Barroll scored a goal and Will Perez made 11 saves for Severn.

Towson 12, Friends 0: Ben Ellis scored three goals and three teammates each added two in the Generals’ win. Leo Mileto, Will Kennedy and Will Derbyshire all found the net twice for Towson. Kennedy also had a pair of assists.

Hereford 12, C. Milton Wright 1: Baylor Davis scored three goals in the Bulls’ win. James Traynor scored twice as eight Bulls scored goals. Trey Gibbons had a goal and two assists, while JP Revitte, Logan Sinsebox, Ryan Martino, Collin Lee and Chase Coker also scored.

Severna Park 18, South River 7: Enrique Villagomez notched five goals and two assists and Nolan Zobori netted four goals and three assists as the Falcons topped the Seahawks. Parker Sealey had three goals, James Ruppert added two goals and an assist, Trevor Phipps notched a hat trick, Justin Martin recorded a goal and an assist, Kyle Matlick, Connor Chick and Henry Sykes each had a goal and Greg Usher made 30 saves for South River.

Fallston 13, Arundel 2: Gage McKenna had three goals and two assists and Lucas Hurlburt had four goals to lead the host Cougars over the Wildcats. Fallston led 9-1 in the first half.

Broadneck 19, Crofton 2: Tyler Hicks scored four goals and Jackson Shaw added three to lead the Bruins. Matt Grant scored twice for the Cardinals.

Bel Air 15, Edgewood 1: Devin Trzeciak had eight goals and an assist to led the host Bobcats past the Rams. Bel Air led 9-0 in the first half.

Indian Creek 23, Key School 15: Will Mercer scored eight goals and Benny Carter had seven to lead the host Eagles (4-1) over the Obezags (1-2).

North County 10, Glen Burnie 2: Josh Martel and Nick Mahoney each tallied four goals, while Trent Eichelberger and Adam Biggs netted goals as the Knights defeated the Gophers. Joe Crenshaw scored two goals, Brandon Loyko made nine saves and Ethan Hansel was 10 of 13 on faceoffs for Glen Burnie.

Northeast 9, Chesapeake 5: Devin Wirth and Andrew Pangalis each scored three goals to lead the host Eagles (4-0) over the Cougars. Northeast scored five of the game’s last six goals.

Annapolis 9, Old Mill 8: Gage Berry registered four goals and Greg Durkin notched five points (three goals and two assists) to lead the Panthers over the Patriots. August Keohan added two goals and an assist, with a goal coming during a crucial man-up situation. Carter Holtzman made a game-saving stop in the last 15 seconds, while Alec Gordon had seven saves in the first half for Annapolis.

Girls lacrosse

Severn 12, Mount de Sales 7: Ryan Dineen scored five goals and won five draws, Claire Hill and Zoee Stencil each scored two goals to lead the Admirals over the Sailors. Issy Leech was credited with a goal and an assist and Tiana Griffin, along with Megan Hiller, scored a goal apiece as the Admirals (3-3, 2-3) overcame a 5-3 deficit at halftime.

North County 16, Glen Burnie 0: Alyssa Yost accounted for five goals and an assist, Lindsay Culbertson added three goals an assist and Natalia Cosentino scored three goals to lead the Knights over the Gophers. Maggie Blanford had two goals and an assist and Jaclyn Bange made nine saves for North County (3-0). Melanie Zaleskiwic stopped four shots for Glen Burnie.

Severna Park 15, South River 1: Alyssa Gore-Chung delivered three goals and two assists and Delanie Abere added three goals as the Falcons rolled past the Seahawks. Karli Kirchenheiter was credited with two goals and four assists, Charlotte Diez had two goals and an assist, Theresa Bragg scored two goals, Emma Marsh recorded a goal and three assists and Sarah Krause made five saves for Severna Park.

Old Mill 10, Annapolis 3: Olivia Hoot had three goals and an assist, while Haley Hodak added three goals to lead the Patriots over the Panthers. Carysn Smith registered two goals and an assist and Samantha Sobolewski recorded two goals for Old Mill. Paige Hubrey led Annapolis with two goals, while Karly Jones added one.

Broadneck 17, Crofton 2: Lilly Kelley scored four goals to lead the Bruins to victory. Katie Bell scored twice for the Cardinals.

North Harford 17, Patterson Mill 9: Allison Stewart scored three goals to lead the Hawks over the Huskies. Ava Lopano scored four goals, Addison Harmel had three goals and Taylor Brown made nine saves for Patterson Mill.

Southern 19, Meade 0: Cecelia Rock tallied three goals, while Lyndsey Miller and Emmie Mudd each had two goals and two assists as the Bulldogs defeated the Mustangs. Mandi Mulhern scored two goals, Jordan Wheeler and Lia Huggins had a goal and an assist, Haylie Fleming had a goal and six draw controls, Kylie Durkin netted a goal and three assists and Lilly Breen and Rachel Breen each had a goal and an assist for Southern.

Notre Dame Prep 15, Gerstell 6: The host Blazers (5-3, 4-2 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland A Conference) used a 3-0 run in the second half to pull away from the Falcons (0-7, 0-6). Olivia Sprinkle scored twice for Gerstell, while Ava Reed made 10 saves.

Indian Creek 13, Key School 3: Mia Putzi had five goals and four assists to lead the host Eagles (3-1, 1-1 IAAM C Conference) over the Obezags (0-3, 0-3). Putzi reached the 100-goal mark.

Glenelg Country 17, Bryn Mawr 6: Jaclyn Marszal had five goals and four assists to lead the host Dragons (6-1, 5-1 IAAM A Conference) over the Mawrtians (5-3, 2-2) for their third straight win. Glenelg Country led 7-4 in the first half.

Manchester Valley 9, Liberty 6: The Mavericks picked up their first county win to remain unbeaten. Casey Meredith led the offense with three goals, while Emma Penczek tallied five points with two goals and three assists. Haylee Bittinger, Sarah Brisson, Kelsee Bittinger and Grace Larrimore all scored for Manchester Valley, and Erin Herrold added an assist.

Baseball

Dundalk 17, Loch Raven 2: Coreem Wright and Jeremy Tirschman each went 4-for-4 in the Owls’ 15-hit outburst, with Tirschman doubling, tripling and driving in three runs. Wright drove in two runs. Dalan Johnson was 3-for-3 with four RBIs and was also the winning pitcher, striking out eight in four innings.

Lansdowne 6, Kenwood 5: Kenwood held a 5-3 lead with two outs in the bottom of the seventh before giving up two unearned runs to push the game into extra innings. Lansdowne won with a two-out bloop single that plated a run in the bottom of the eighth.

Towson 6, Franklin 2: Ryan Boice and Adam Decker combined on the two-hitter, with Boice striking out nine in five innings. Offensively for the Generals, Asher Grotsky drove in two with Justin Mealey, Noah Korman and Andrew Steinbacher each adding RBIs.

Hereford 12, Perry Hall 1: Drew Kinsey was 3-for-3 with two doubles, a triple and five RBIs to lead the Bulls (4-1) to their fourth straight win. Ryan Elseroad added two hits and an RBI while scoring three runs. Liam Diehl struck out nine in four scoreless innings to get the win.

Perryville 13, Joppatowne 2: Mason Salisbury homered, singled and drove in five runs to lead the Panthers. Zach Ayers chipped in two RBIs, while Daniel Tserkis scored three times.

Havre de Grace 7, Harford Tech 5: The Cobras opened with four runs in the top of the first, but Havre de Grace answered back. For the Cobras, Hayden Kobert went 3-for-4 with a double, a triple, two RBIs and a run scored.

Fallston 8, Harford Tech 2: The Cougars (4-1, 4-0) broke open the game with six runs in the fourth inning. Evan Elliott drove in two runs to pace the offense with Finley Jourdan adding a two-hit game. Braeden Rock got the win on the mound.

Annapolis 4, CHEN 2: Colin Bashor allowed two hits and an unearned run in five innings while striking out six, and Dom Montini provided the offense with two hits and an RBI to give the Panthers the win over the Chargers. Alejandro Casanova, Anthony Costa, Josh Ryan and Matthew Darnell also had hits for Annapolis.

Key 15, Chapelgate 0: Sean Boomer allowed one hit in five scoreless innings while striking out 10 and singling twice, and Lachlan Armstrong hit a two-run home run to lead the Obezags (5-2, 4-0) to the mercyrule victory over the Yellow Jackets. Trey Brandon had two base hits and three RBIs, Luke Nespole added two singles and drove in a pair and Josh Kamins singled and had two RBIs.

North County 15, Meade 4: Kyle Lowman delivered three hits, including a double and two RBIs, while Landon Reyes and Austin Carter each had a hit and drove in a pair to guide the Knights past the Mustangs. Kevin Santos finished 2-for-2 with a double and an RBI, Andrew Myers doubled and drove in a run and Augustin Murillo also doubled for North County. Kayden Moore had three hits and drove in a run and Aiden Barbour doubled and had an RBI for Meade.

Glen Burnie 7, Old Mill 3: George Johnson gave up one run on four hits while striking out six to lead the Gophers over the Patriots. Alan Fangman went 2-for-3 with a double for Glen Burnie (4-1), which has won four straight. Logan Garhes hit a solo home run for Old Mill.

Chesapeake 11, Northeast 2: Noah Bowerman struck out 12 in five innings, allowing a lone hit and two first-inning runs as the Cougars stormed past the Eagles. Dillon Stevens had three hits, including two doubles, while Nick Karls had a home run, a single and two RBIs. Owen Schmidt had two hits and drove in a pair of runs and Sean Carroll added two hits and an RBI. Evan Dickey had two hits and an RBI for Northeast.

Liberty 10, Winters Mill 2: The Lions took the lead in the third inning and never looked back in a victory over the Falcons. The Lions (3-3) combined for eight hits and five stolen bases. The Falcons (0-4) combined for three hits and committed seven errors to Liberty’s four. Liberty took the lead with four runs in the third inning, highlighted by two-run doubles from catcher Cam Hodges and third baseman Kevin Hyde. The Lions added another three runs in the following two innings capped by a three-run double by Joe Glass.

Manchester Valley 14, Westminster 10: A six-run sixth inning lifted the Mavericks over the Owls. Hank Brown drove in three runs to lead Manchester Valley. Eight players recorded a base hit and seven drove in runs for Westminster.

Century 12, Francis Scott Key 2: The Knights held a slim two-run lead in the fifth inning before breaking the game open with four runs in the fifth and four more in the sixth. RJ Branch singled, doubled and drove in two for Century. Brody Comer also had a pair of RBIs. Three pitchers combined on the four-hitter with Comer getting the win.

Poly 17, Academy for College and Career Exploration 7: Rashid McLeod had a home run and three RBIs to lead the host Engineers over the Eagles. Poly scored eight runs in the third inning.

Severna Park 3, Arundel 2: Sean Williams hit a first-pitch double to score Seamus Patenaude, who led off the top of the sixth inning with a triple, for the winning run for the Falcons. Angel Santiago-Cruz went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Severna Park, while Brendan Sweeney hit a solo home run for Arundel.

Southern 4, Crofton 1: Colby Waters had an RBI single and Michael Martin had three walks, stole four bases and scored twice as the Bulldogs defeated the Cardinals. Churchill Bridgman picked up the win, giving up one run and striking out seven in six innings for Southern (4-1). Alex Craig had two hits and Travis Fleschman drove in the only run for Crofton.

St. Mary’s 29, Severn 8: Nick Hulme (3-for-6) had six RBIs and three doubles and Rocco Abdinoor (3-for-4) had two doubles and six RBIs to lead the visiting Saints (4-4) over the Admirals (1-4). St. Mary’s scored 15 runs in the second inning.

Broadneck 11, South River 5: Josh Ehrlich went 4-for-5 to lead the visiting Bruins over the Seahawks. Ehrlich hit singles in the first, second, third and seventh innings.

Softball

North Harford 8, Bel Air 5: Tied at 4 after four innings, North Harford scored three in the fifth to take control. Maggie Mullin drove in two runs for North Harford and also got the win in the circle. Bel Air got two hits and an RBI from Kyrsten Coppage.

Towson 17, Franklin 4: Grace Hoey and Samara Murchinson each homered for the Generals. Hoey drove in three runs, while Murchinson drove in two. Hannah Smith and Trinity Alleyne each added two RBIs. Lexi Predmore got the win in the circle, striking out 15 in six innings.

Dundalk 17, Loch Raven 0: Alexis Elliott went 3-for-3 with a double, triple, home run and five RBIs to lead a dominant offensive performance for the Owls. Savannah Kelly had three hits, including a pair of doubles, while driving in four. Britney Thompson also had three hits. Julie Buger struck out eight in the circle.

Carver Center 5, Dulaney 4: In the first game of a doubleheader, Carver’s Maddie Golt broke a 3-3 tie in the seventh inning with a two-run home run. Lilly Dennis, Emily Hamp and Jaiden Shaw each had two hits. Dennis got the win in the circle, striking out nine while allowing five hits.

Carver Center 11, Dulaney 1: Mallory Cooper threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts in Game 2 as Carver moved to 4-0. Teagen Hoey had two doubles and three RBIs. Maddie Golt hit her second home run of the day in the game.

Manchester Valley 24, Westminster 1: The Mavericks scored in each of the five innings they batted, posting 20 hits en route to a 24-1 victory over the Owls. Senior Juliana Lynott produced five RBIs to lead the Mavericks. Pitcher Makenna Deane threw a three-hitter for the win. At the plate, she went 3-for-5 with a double.

Liberty 22, Winters Mill 1: Erin Martin went 4-for-5 with a home run and a double while driving in six runs for the Lions (3-3). Liberty amassed 20 hits in the game. Jillian Dorsey and Hailey Seaton also homered. Seaton finished with three hits and four RBIs, while Dorsey had two hits and three RBIs. Kaelin Ault doubled twice, singled and drove in two. Evelyn Connor and Natalie Crane each had two hits.

Francis Scott Key 4, Century 3: The Eagles trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the sixth before Kendall Jackman scored the tying run off a bunt from Joelle Staub. Emma Taff knocked in the go-ahead run, one of her two RBIs on the day. Emma Tawney and Joelle Staub each had two hits for FSK. Jasmine Kline picked up the win in the circle.

Arundel 12, Severna Park 11: Emma Schurr’s double in the bottom of the eighth plated Sanaa Brown with the winning run as the Wildcats earned the walk-off victory over the Falcons. Schurr added another double and a single, Aidan Koch finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, Kathryn Wisor went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Sierra Williams doubled and drove in a pair. Sally Trent ended the afternoon 3-for-3 with a two-run home run and three RBIs. Livi Driver hit two doubles and drove in three runs for Severna Park.

Chesapeake 15, Northeast 1: Alie Pollack went 2-for-3 with two home runs and five RBIs and Sophia Bianco finished 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs as the Cougars defeated the Eagles. Sam Larkin went 3-for-4 with two RBIs, Ava Cichetti added a hit and Kendall Thomas earned the win, striking out three while adding two hits for Chesapeake (4-0).

Old Mill 6, Glen Burnie 0: Reagan McCoy hit a two-run home run in the seventh and Brynn Mulzer surrendered only two hits as the Patriots blanked the Gophers. Grace Crawford had an RBI single and another base hit, while Jocyelyn Degeyter and Mulzer each had multiple-hit days for Old Mill (3-2).

South River 12, Broadneck 1: Winning pitcher CJ Harris hit a three-run home run, Gracie Solarz hit a two-run home run and drove in four runs and Courtney Little hit a solo home run as the Seahawks won in five innings over the Bruins.
