Cooper super for Wildcats

Ace pitcher leads No. 13 Carver A&T softball past No. 5 Catonsvill­e

Carver A&T junior Mallory Cooper capped a phenomenal week of pitching and hitting by leading the visiting No. 13 Wildcats to a 6-0 win over No. 5 Catonsvill­e on Friday.

Cooper pitched a two-hitter with 14 strikeouts and only one walk just days after throwing a no-hitter with 16 strikeouts in a win over Sparrows Point. She followed that with 16 strikeouts in a win over Perry Hall.

The win avenged the Wildcats’ only loss of the season, which came in a 2-1 defeat against Catonsvill­e two weeks earlier.

“I was really looking forward to this game because I knew after our first game we could definitely do better defensivel­y and offensivel­y, and this game we really showed up,” Cooper said after her team improved to 11-1.

Catonsvill­e (9-2) didn’t get its first hit until Maggie Kreis stroked a single to right with one out in the sixth. A two-out single by Abby Grimes in the seventh was the only other hit.

“The kid threw an amazing game,” Catonsvill­e coach Paul Harris said. “She did great. She has found a groove [and] she’s looking real good right now.”

Spalding 17, McDonogh 3: Jayda Betts tripled, doubled and singled twice, driving in four runs, and Taylor Barchanowo­icz finished 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs to lead the Cavaliers.

Crofton 2, Old Mill 1: Brynn Mulzer scattered four hits in a complete-game effort, yielding one earned run, but the Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh to win.

Severna Park 13, Northeast 10: Caitlyn Cornwell led Northeast, going 4-for-5.

Patterson Mill 9, Bel Air 1: The Huskies scored five runs in the first inning. Ella Laurentius homered and drove in three runs in the win, and Madison Knight struck out 12 in six innings.

North Harford 5, Elkton 2: Carmen Santoro got the win in the circle as the Hawks piled up 10 hits in the win.

South Carroll 8, Century 7: The Cavaliers took the lead with three runs in the bottom of the third and four in the sixth.

Liberty 25, Westminste­r 11: It was a one-run game after five innings before the Lions scored 16 runs in the top of the sixth. Haleigh Hodges and Erin Martin each homered for Liberty.

Manchester Valley 10, Winters Mill 0: Makenna Deane threw a four-hitter with 10 strikeouts for the Mavericks.

Hammond 3, Long Reach 2: Kasey Smith pitched a two-hitter for the Golden Bears (5-7, 5-7 Howard County).

Reservoir 6, Mt. Hebron 0: Maggie Frisvold was dominant in the circle for Reservoir (13-0, 13-0 Howard County), striking out 13 in the two-hitter.

Howard 15, Atholton 0: In Game 1 of a doublehead­er, Maddie Coleman dominated in the circle, striking out 12 and allowing just one hit for the Lions.

Howard 11, Atholton 0: In Game 2 of the doublehead­er, the Lions (10-3, 9-2 Howard County) continued to roll as Katie Green earned the victory, throwing four innings.

South River 17, Meade 0: Sarah Brookman and Emilee Terry each drove in three runs and Erin Tebbe added two RBIs for the Seahawks.

Glenelg 10, Marriotts Ridge 9: Jamie Shaw led the Gladiators (11-4, 10-4 Howard County) with three hits and three runs scored.

Patapsco 11, Dundalk 10: Dundalk hit three home runs and scored 10 runs in the first four innings but couldn’t hold its lead.

Girls lacrosse

Bel Air 13, Havre de Grace 1: Maddie Hauff and Paige Feick each scored three goals for the Bobcats.

Severn 12, Gerstell 7: Ryan Dineen had three goals and two assists, and Zoee Stencil added three goals and an assist to lead the Admirals.

Liberty 19, Tuscarora 3: The Lions built a 13-2 halftime lead. Val Thompson poured in seven goals.

Century 15, Mt. Hebron 11: Jasmine Stanton had five goals to lead Century.

Glenelg County 17, Garrison Forest 7: Maggie Weisman led Glenelg Country with six goals in a double-digit victory.

Severna Park 12, Broadneck 8: Theresa Bragg and Karli Kirchenhei­ter each accounted for three goals, while Alyssa Gore-Chung netted two to lead the Falcons.

Southern 12, Arundel 11: Lyndsey Miller registered five goals, two assists and five draw controls, and Jordan Wheeler added two goals, one assist and a game-high 10 draw controls to lead the Bulldogs.

Old Mill 14, Northeast 3: Samantha Sobolewski had seven goals and Haley Hodak had four goals and an assist for the Patriots.

Boys lacrosse

St. Paul’s 10, McDonogh 4: The Crusaders (9-5, 3-4 MIAA A Conference) went on a 6-1 run in the second half to beat the host Eagles (8-6, 4-4).

St. John’s Catholic Prep 10, Key 5: Reid Chapman deposited four goals and Teddy Fleming added a goal, but the Obezags fell to the Vikings.

St. Mary’s 11, Gilman 3: The host Saints (14-0, 7-0 MIAA A Conference) opened with a 3-0 run and beat the Greyhounds (8-9, 2-5). St. Mary’s was led by Erik Chick, Jacob Adams and Nick Golini with two goals each.

Havre de Grace 9, Bel Air 8: In an overtime thriller, Havre de Grace scored the winner for a sudden-death victory.

Northeast 12, Old Mill 7: RJ Breeden netted five goals and two assists, and Matthew Hieatzman totaled three goals and two assists to lead the Eagles.

South River 13, Crofton 6: Connor Chick delivered four goals and four assists, and Henry Sykes added another four goals to lead the Seahawks.

Annapolis 11, Chesapeake 4: Andrew Wasielewsk­i provided four goals and an assist, and Gage Berry added three goals and an assist for the Panthers.

Arundel 13, Southern 4: Noah Bell provided six goals and two assists, and Jack Schuette added four goals for the Wildcats.

Mt. Hebron 11, Century 4: Leading 5-3 at half, the Vikings (11-1) took control in the second half.

Century 10, South Carroll 0: Bryson Prietz threw a five-hit shutout with five strikeouts.

Manchester Valley 9, Winters Mill 8: After Winters Mill scored three runs in the top of the sixth to take the lead, the Mavericks answered in the bottom of the frame.

Liberty 12, Westminste­r 2: The Lions scored eight runs in the third inning. Byron Blevins, Dom DiBlasi and Kevin Hyde each drove in two runs for Liberty.

Poly 16, City 6: The Knights plated five runs in the bottom of the first before Leo Boehringer came on in relief and shut them down.

New Town 14, Carver A&T 4: David Sifford homered and drove in four runs for the Titans.

Sparrows Point 6, Towson 5: Ryan Karczmarek singled home the winning run.

Randallsto­wn 13, Loch Raven 10: The Rams got a double, triple and six RBIs from Jaden Bannerman.

Pikesville 10, Parkville 8: Ronald Jenkins singled home two runs in the top of the eighth to give the Panthers the win.

Severn 4, AACS 2: Campbell Grimes drove in Benjamin Campion with the game-winning run.

North County 15, Glen Burnie 3: Landon Reyes went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs to lead the Knights (11-5)..

Severna Park 3, Northeast 1: Seamus Patenaude finished with two hits, including a double, while driving in two runs for Severna Park.

South River 8, Meade 0: Jack Schrader went 3-for-4 with a double and scored two runs for the Seahawks.

Southern 3, Broadneck 2: Michael Martin had two triples, scored two runs and drove in a run while also earning the win for Southern.

Spalding 11, Calvert Hall 1: Caleb Estes had two base hits and drove in three runs, while Ethan McNally doubled and had three RBIs for Spalding.

Arundel 10, Chesapeake 7: Five Arundel pitchers combined to hold down a potent Chesapeake offense.

Catonsvill­e 6, Dulaney 5: In an extra-innings affair, Catonsvill­e edged Dulaney by one run.

John Carroll 11, Archbishop Curley 6: A seven-run fourth inning put the game away for John Carroll.

Boys tennis

Century 5, South Carroll 0: The Knights were paced by singles wins from Jack Amerault and Kaushik Inguva.

Manchester Valley 4, Winters Mill 1: Ian Bartles won first singles for the Mavericks.
