Terps sit atop conference again

Maryland beats No. 21 Michigan to secure Big Ten regular-season title

The Maryland women’s lacrosse team won’t have to share the Big Ten title.

Eloise Clevenger (Marriotts Ridge) had four goals and two assists and Libby May (Hereford) had two goals and two assists to lead the No. 4 Terps (15-1, 6-0 Big Ten) to a 13-8 victory over host No. 21 Michigan on Saturday.

The victory over the Wolverines (10-6, 2-4) secured sole possession of the Big Ten regular-season title for the sixth time in the past seven years for the Terps. Top-seeded Maryland will face fourth-seeded Johns Hopkins in Friday’s league playoffs at 5:30 p.m.

UMBC 13, New Hampshire 10: The host Retrievers (8-8, 2-4 America East) built a three-goal lead in the first half and held off the Wildcats (7-8, 2-4). Claire Bockstie (Maryvale) had four goals for UMBC. The Retrievers will face top seed Albany in the America East Conference tournament 3 p.m. Thursday.

Towson 17, Delaware 10: Kerri Thornton scored a game-high six goals and Blair Pearre (McDonogh) had four goals to lead the visiting Tigers (8-7, 5-1 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) past the Blue Hens (5-11, 2-4). Towson led 11-7 at the half. The Tigers will face Delaware again in the league playoffs at 4 p.m. Friday in Philadelph­ia.

Mount St. Mary’s 14, Central Connecticu­t State 1: Madison Bradley made seven saves and the visiting Mountainee­rs (14-4, 8-0 Northeast Conference) limited the Blue Devils (2-13, 1-1) to 12 shots and one goal. Zoe Hurlburt (Fallston) had five goals and Jordan Groover had three goals for Mount St. Mary’s. The Mount advance to the league tournament, which starts Thursday.

Division II

Frostburg State 22, Davis & Elkins 4: Lilly Stephens scored six goals and Stephanie King (South River) had five goals to lead the host Bobcats (9-6, 7-1 Mount East Conference) over the Senators (5-10, 2-6). Frostburg State finished in first place in the league standings.

Division III

Salisbury 21, Christophe­r Newport 7: The host Sea Gulls (14-2, 2-0 Coast-ToCoast Conference) opened with a 10-0 run and routed the Captains (9-8, 1-1). Emma Skoglund scored five goals, Lydia McNulty (Broadneck) had four and Erin Scannell (John Carroll) and Leah Vilov each had three for Salisbury. The top-seeded Sea

Gulls will face the quarterfin­al winner of Christophe­r Newport/Mary Washington in Saturday’s league semifinals.

Stevenson 13, Widener 5: Sophie Shucosky (Maryvale) made 10 saves and McKenna Blick had three goals and two assists and Caroline Murphy had three goals to lead the visiting Mustangs (11-6, 6-2 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonweal­th) over the Pride (10-7, 5-3). The victory secured the No. 3 seed for Stevenson, which will travel to Messiah for Wednesday’s semifinals.

Washington College 13, Dickinson 12: Ashley Devlin scored the game-winner as time expired to lift the host Shorewomen (7-9, 5-4 Centennial Conference) over the Red Devils (3-11, 2-7). Devlin assisted on the tying goal by Molly Sharpe (Notre Dame Prep) with 2:25 left in the game. Devlin, Colleen Keefe (Notre Dame Prep) and Ellie Morrall all finished with three goals.

Albright 11, Hood 10, 2OT: The visiting Blazers (5-11, 1-7 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonweal­th) went on a 3-0 run to take a one-goal lead, but the Lions (5-12, 3-5) scored the next two to win. Chloe Fornoff had the tying goal with 36 seconds and Ashleigh Tortorice had the game-winner with one second left in the second overtime for Albright. Jess Lyons (Gerstell) had four goals for Hood.

Muhlenberg 19, McDaniel 14: The host Mules (10-5, 3-5 Centennial Conference) used a 5-1 run in the third quarter to pull

away from the Green Terror (9-6, 4-4). Kealey Allison and Emily Sheppard each scored four goals for McDaniel.

Elizabetht­own at Goucher, ppd.: The game between the Blue Jays (2-13, 0-5 Landmark Conference) and Gophers (2-13, 0-5) was postponed. No makeup date has been announced.

Anne Arundel Community College at St. Mary’s, cnd.: The game between the Riverhawks (6-2) and Seahawks (10-5) was canceled. Anne Arundel also canceled its previous game versus Cairn on April 22.

Men Division I

Johns Hopkins 16, Penn State 8: The Blue Jays jumped out to a 7-1 second-quarter lead and held the Nittany Lions (3-11) to just one goal in the first, second and fourth quarters to secure a victory in the Big Ten quarterfin­als at Homewood Field on Saturday afternoon. Johns Hopkins (7-8) advances to the semifinals, where it will face No. 1 Maryland on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.

Hopkins senior attackman Joey Epstein had a team-high three goals and now has 100 in his career. A season-high 11 different players scored goals for the Blue Jays.

Hofstra 15, Towson 14: Rory Jones (St. Paul’s) scored the game-winner with six seconds left to lift the visiting Pride (6-9, 2-3 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) over the

Tigers (6-8, 3-2). Towson mounted a late rally going on a 7-3 run in the fourth quarter. Tigers’ Kyle Berkeley tied the game, 14-14, with 41 seconds left. Towson will be the second seed in the league tournament at Drexel.

Hobart 14, Mount St. Mary’s 7: The host Statesmen (6-5, 4-3 Northeast Conference) took a 10-4 lead in the first half and beat the Mount (5-10, 2-5). Brendan Lantieri had a goal and two assists and Gunnar Luckoski made 17 saves for Mount St. Mary’s.

Division II

Mercy 12, Frostburg State 6: The visiting Mavericks (12-1) extended their two-goal lead with a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter. Matthew Ward had a hat trick for the Bobcats (10-7).

Division III

Salisbury 23, Mary Washington 5: The host Sea Gulls (16-1, 1-1 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference) opened with a 16-0 run and routed the Eagles (8-9, 0-2). The victory was the third straight. Jarrett Bromwell, Cross Ferrara and Joe Carozza each had four goals and Logan Posner (St. Paul’s) had three goals for Salisbury, which will face Mary Washington again in the semifinals of the C2C tournament Tuesday at 4 p.m.

St. Mary’s 27, Medaille 0: Aiden Doyle (Broadneck) and Jude Brown (John Carroll) scored four goals and Jack Brocato (St. Paul’s) and Walker Krizman each had three to lead the visiting Seahawks (12-4, 4-1 United East) over the Mavericks (1-10, 1-5). Twelve players scored for St. Mary’s. The Seahawks outshot Medaille 64-8.

Hood 16, Albright 9: The host Blazers (6-10, 1-6 Middle Atlantic Conference Commonweal­th) broke a 1-1 tie with an 8-0 run in the second quarter and beat the Lions (5-10, 1-6). The win broke a four-game losing streak. Robbie Wiley had four goals and Colby Gallagher and Rio Muldoon each had three for Hood.

Dickinson 18, Washington College 10: The visiting Red Devils (16-0, 8-0 Centennial Conference) went on a 6-2 run in the second quarter to take charge. Ewan Temple had three goals for the Shoremen (4-10, 3-5). Washington College lost its past two games.

Muhlenberg 17, McDaniel 4: The host Mules (9-5, 5-3 Centennial) built a 14-3 lead in the first half and beat the Green Terror (4-13, 0-8). The loss was the ninth straight for McDaniel, which got two goals from Dom Calderoni.

Elizabetht­own 28, Goucher 4: The visiting Gophers (2-14, 1-6 Landmark Conference) trailed 9-3 after the first quarter and were held to one goal the rest of the way. Goucher lost its sixth straight. The Blue Jays improved to 10-6, 5-1
