No. 8 Johns Hopkins men upset No. 2 Virginia, 16-14

Here is the weekly roundup of state men and women’s lacrosse games.

Division I men No. 8 Johns Hopkins 16, No. 2 Virginia 14:

Matt Collison scored two of his four goals during a 4-0 run in the second half and the visiting Blue Jays (5-1) upended the Cavaliers (3-1) on Saturday to win the Doyle Smith Cup. Chayse Ierlan made 16 saves for Hopkins and Johnathan Peshko added four goals and an assist. It marked the second loss by a top Atlantic Coast Conference team this week as No. 1 Duke lost, 14-12, to No. 17 Penn at home Friday.

Navy 16, Boston University 9:

The visiting Midshipmen (3-2, 1-0 Patriot League) used a 5-0 run in the second half to pull away from the Terriers (3-2, 0-1) on Saturday to end a two-game slide. Navy was led by Dane Swanson (McDonogh) with a gamehigh six goals and Henry Tolker (Loyola Blakefield) and Xavier Arline with three each.

Mikey Weisshaar (Archbishop Spalding) scored a game-high five goals, Maryland transfer Nick DeMaio had four goals and the host Tigers (4-2) beat the Retrievers (1-2) on Saturday. Towson went on a 6-0 run in the second quarter and took a 9-2 lead. Mateo Brown (Mount Hebron) scored twice for UMBC.

Towson 17, UMBC 7: Colgate 14, Loyola Maryland 11:

The host Raiders (4-3, 1-0 Patriot) scored the last five goals over the final 10 ½ minutes to beat the Greyhounds (2-4, 0-1) on Saturday. Colgate was led by Jack Turner with four goals and Hunter Drouin with three. Evan James and Adam

Poitras each scored three goals for Loyola.

Monmouth 13, Mount St. Mary’s 12, 2OT:

Connor Macrae scored the game-winner with 3:15 left in the second overtime to lift the host Hawks (3-2) over the Mountainee­rs (0-5) on Saturday. Mount St. Mary’s opened with a 4-0 run, but fell behind. Mount’s Brody Atkinson (St. Paul’s) scored the tying goal on an assist from Will McKay with 50 seconds left in regulation to force overtime.

Loyola Maryland Towson 10, OT: 11,

Remi Reynolds (Gilman) scored the game-winner with one second left in overtime to lift the host Greyhounds over the Tigers on Tuesday. Joaquin Villagomez (Severna Park) scored the tying goal for Towson with 3:11 left in regulation to force overtime. Loyola was led by Davis Lindsay with four goals and Evan James with three. The Tigers got two goals each from Weisshaar, DeMaio and Bodie Maurer.

Division II men Mercyhurst 15, Frostburg State 14:

Colin Tardiff scored five goals and the visiting Lakers (2-2) held off the Bobcats (1-1) to win Saturday. Frostburg State put together a 3-0 rally late in the game that came up short. Chase Buckwalter (Westminste­r) finished with four goals for the Bobcats.

Division III men Salisbury 13, Lynchburg 8:

The host Sea Gulls (5-0) went on a 6-1 run in the third quarter and beat the Hornets (1-2) on Saturday. Luke Nestor had a hat trick for Salisbury. The Sea Gulls outshot Lynchburg, 49-28.

McDaniel 5, Alvernia 3: Jason Fritz scored three goals during a 4-0 run and the visiting Green Terror (4-0) beat the Golden Wolves (1-2) on Saturday. McDaniel led 3-1 in the first half. The Green Terror are off to their best start since 2003.

St.Mary’s10,Hampden-Sydney 9, OT:

Declan Horton scored the game-winner on a man-up goal assisted by Johnny McGrain (Dulaney) with 49 seconds left in overtime to lift the host Seahawks (3-1) over the Tigers (4-2) on Saturday. St. Mary’s Joshua Martel (North County) and Hampden-Sydney’s Patrick Hanes each scored four goals. Hanes scored the tying goal with 25 seconds left in regulation.

Hood 12, Marymount 11:

Robbie Wiley scored a game-high five goals and Rio Muldoon had a hat trick to lead the host Blazers (4-2) over the Saints (0-4) on Saturday. Regan Tesche broke the seventh tie with 4:15 left to play and Hood never trailed again.

Goucher 14, Lebanon Valley 11:

The visiting Gophers (3-1) went on a 6-2 run to start the second half and beat the Flying Dutchmen (2-3) on Saturday. Goucher’s James Dugan (Towson) and Lebanon Valley’s Alex Kiviniemi each scored seven goals. Jack Smith made 18 saves for the Gophers.

Gettysburg 11, Stevenson 9:

Max Racich led all scorers with five goals, but the visiting Mustangs (2-2) fell to the Bullets (2-1) on Saturday. Gettysburg goalie Chase Morgan made 20 saves.

Goucher 9, Hood 8:

going on a 4-0 run in the second half. Tyler May scored the deciding goal for a 9-7 lead with 5:32 left in the game. The Gophers’ Jacob Morgan and Hood’s Robbie Wiley each scored three goals.

Washington College 15, Elizabetht­own 9:

Colin Grey (Broadneck) made 10 saves and the visiting Shoremen (1-2) beat the Blue Jays (0-1) on Wednesday. Connor Garrison scored four goals and Luke Brennan had three for Washington College.

Stevenson 18, Catholic 12:

The visiting Mustangs used a 5-1 run in the second quarter to pull away from the Cardinals (0-2) on Wednesday. Stevenson was led by Grant Zick with five goals, while Hunter Bryant and Max Racich each scored three. Steven Dezelic led Catholic with five goals.

The host Seahawks opened with a 4-0 run and finished the game on a 6-0 run to rout the Eagles (0-2) on Tuesday. St. Mary’s was led by Joshua Martel (North County) with four goals and Aiden Doyle (Broadneck) and Billy Higgins with three each. Ben Robertson (South River) made nine saves for the win.

St. Mary’s 20, Juniata 4: Division I women No. 8 Loyola Maryland 14, No. 25 Penn State 10:

Chase Boyle tied a career-best with six goals to go along with a career-high 15 draw controls to lead the Greyhounds (4-0) over the visiting Nittany Lions (2-4) on Saturday. Georgia Latch had three goals and two assists, while Sydni Black added two goals and two assists for Loyola.

No. 9 Maryland 10, No. 10 Denver 8:

Victoria Hensh recorded the fourth hat trick of her career as the Terps (4-1) beat the host Pioneers (3-2) on Saturday. Maggie Weisman scored twice for Maryland, which had seven players score at least one goal.

No. 17 Navy 14, No. 20 Richmond 5:

Emily Messinese scored four goals to lead the host Midshipmen (5-0) to a dominant win over the Spiders (4-1) on Saturday. Maggie DeFabio and Tori DiCarlo each had three goals and an assist for Navy.

No. 16 Southern California 11, Towson 5:

The host Tigers (1-3) took an early lead before the Trojans (4-1) went on a 6-0 run that spanned both halves to pull ahead Friday. Claudia Shevitz scored a game-high four goals for USC. Lindsey Marshall (Catonsvill­e) had a goal and an assist and Jo Torres (St. Mary’s) made 11 saves for Towson.

No. 15 Johns Hopkins 10, Georgetown 9:

Abbey Hurlbrink (Bryn Mawr) scored with 12:13 left in the game to give the host Blue Jays (4-2) a four-goal lead and Hopkins weathered a late three-goal run by the Hoyas (2-3) to win Wednesday. After two ties, the Blue Jays took the lead for good in the second quarter. Hopkins’ Ava Angello and Georgetown’s Gracie Driggs (St. Mary’s) each finished with three goals.

UMBC 15, Mount St. Mary’s 11:

Kolby Weedon (Catonsvill­e) had a hat trick in the first quarter and a 5-0 run in the first half helped the visiting Retrievers (3-2) pull away from the Mountainee­rs (0-4) on Wednesday. Katana Nelson and Grace Bruce (Century) each scored five goals for UMBC. Anna Salerno (Patterson Mill) had a game-high six goals for Mount St. Mary’s.

Division II women Grand Valley State 12, Frostburg State 4:

The visiting Lakers (2-0) built a 8-2 lead in the first half and routed the Bobcats (1-1) on Sunday. Camden DeMaio scored twice for Frostburg State.

Division III women

The host Green Terror (2-1) finished on a 6-1 run and beat the Blazers (1-3) on Wednesday. McDaniel was led by Emma Miller (Marriotts Ridge) with a game-high six goals, while Emma Legacy (St. Mary’s) and Charlotte Alexander (Chesapeake-AA) each scored four. MacKenzie Demaio had three goals for Hood.

McDaniel 19, Hood 12: Washington College 15, Mary Washington 8:

The host Shorewomen (4-0) used a 7-0 run in the first half to pull away from the Eagles (1-3) on Wednesday. Washington College got four goals each from Abby Laubach and Mia Salvatierr­a (Fallston), while McKenna Seashole made eight saves. Katie Blair (Hereford) had three goals for Mary Washington.

Notre Dame (Md.) 12, Eastern 10:

The host Gators (1-0) took an early lead and held off the Eagles (0-1) to win Wednesday. Jade Stewart scored five goals and Sarah Generoso (Catholic) had four for Notre Dame.

Salisbury 14, Washington & Lee 11:

The host Sea Gulls (3-0) used a 4-0 run in the second quarter to pull ahead of the Generals (1-2) on Sunday. Erin Scannell (John Carroll) and Leah Vilov each had a hat trick for Salisbury.
