Missed opportunity for patriotic songs at Pier 6

-

I love Baltimore, its heritage, history and people. Over the last 20 years, I have invited family and friends to spend the day with me at Fort McHenry on the second Saturday in September for the festivities and celebrations.

Several of us planned to do the same this year only to find everything had changed. We could no longer take food, drink, coolers or even chairs (several of us are handicapped and cannot sit down or get back up on a blanket).

So I ended up inviting friends from out of state to watch the festivities from my home, thinking we would see a concert full of patriotic music and history. But what a disappointment the Pier 6 Concert was.

If it had been a regular concert with the same stars, and they sang their own hits, it would have been great. But this was to honor America, its national anthem, and its history.

There are so many patriotic songs that could have taken the place of those that were sung. This was the perfect opportunity to spread the sound of patriotism, and allow the nation watching this show to really get into the spirit of the national anthem and hundreds of other patriotic songs.

We kept watching, hoping the next song would be one that celebrates this country. I don’t know who approved the songs these artists performed, but it never happened. Thank goodness we got a few at the very end from the Fort McHenry concert that helped ease the pain of not hearing them at Pier 6.
