Navy’s Reynolds back at practice, expects to start Saturday’s game

Navy starting quarterbac­k Keenan Reynolds, who missed Saturday night’s victory at Texas State, was running wind sprints without any apparent difficulty toward the end of practice Monday. Reynolds showed no signs of favoring the right knee that was severely bruised when it was hit by the helmet of a Temple defender Sept. 6. The standout junior then told the media that he fully expects to start Saturday when the Midshipmen play their first home game of the season against Rutgers. MEN’S LACROSSE: Nineteen players from Maryland are ranked in Inside Lacrosse’s list of the Power 100 freshmen for the 2015 season. At the top is attackman Shack Stanwick (Boys’ Latin) of Johns Hopkins, followed by Mikey Wynne (St. Paul’s) of Notre Dame at No. 4 and midfielder Brinton Valis of Hopkins at No. 7. Hutchinson transferre­d to Towson before the 2013 season from CCBC-Essex, where he was the 2012 Maryland Junior College Offensive Player and Midfielder of the Year. ... Chestnut Hill College in Philadelph­ia hired three-time All-America Maryland goalie Niko Amato as an assistant coach and defensive coordinato­r for the men’s team. Amato joins coach Brian Dougherty, who starred for the Terps in the mid-1990s and mentored Amato a decade ago. ... St. John’s hired former UMBCand Washington College assistant Terry Mangan as a men’s assistant coach. Mangan has more than 20 years of college coaching experience, including 10 as head coach at Lafayette. He spent the 1991 and 1992 seasons as head coach at Archbishop Spalding. WOMEN’S LACROSSE: Fresno State hired Nicole Price (North Harford, Mount St. Mary’s) as an assistant coach. She was an assistant last season at San Diego State. MEN’S SOCCER: Navy (3-1-1) returned to the National Soccer Coaches Associatio­n of America poll at No. 22. ... Washington College senior midfielder Bob Libera was named Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III South Offensive Player of the Week; McDaniel goalkeeper Nick Over (Winters Mill) was named Rookie of the Week. FIELD HOCKEY: Maryland junior defender Sarah Sprink and freshman Moira Putsch were named Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, respective­ly. MEN’S BASKETBALL: Maryland will open its Big Ten home schedule on the Big Ten Network against Minnesota on Jan. 3 at noon, one of at least 11 appearance­s on the network during the school’s inaugural season in the league. ADMINISTRA­TION: Kristen Brown joined Maryland as associate athletic director for sport administra­tion. She last served as the American Athletic Conference’s director of basketball administra­tion.
