McDonogh re­mains No. 3 in state poll

McDonogh held at No. 3 behind No. 1 DeMatha and No. 2 Good Coun­sel while some other lo­cal teams moved up a lit­tle in the Mary­land High School Foot­ball Me­dia State Poll af­ter the first full week­end of ac­tion. The Ea­gles im­proved to 2-0 af­ter beat­ing then-No. 19 Franklin, 34-14. The Ea­gles will have a lot of say in how the poll shakes out over the next cou­ple of weeks as they play No. 11 Bishop McNa­mara (1-1) on Fri­day and DeMatha (2-0) on Sept. 16. Both games are at home. Arch­bishop Spald­ing moved up two spots to No. 7 with a sea­son-open­ing 52-0 win over St. Mary’s. The Cava­liers also have a chance to im­prove their stand­ing be­cause they host Good Coun­sel (1-0) on Fri­day night. Mount Saint Joseph jumped four spots to No. 10 af­ter a close call against Good Coun­sel. The Gaels (0-1) fell, 23-21. Also climb­ing: No. 12 Howard (up one), No. 15 Calvert Hall (up one), No. 19 Old Mill (up one) and No. 20 Gil­man (up three). Broad­neck stuck at No. 17 while St. Frances dropped one to No. 16 and Franklin tum­bled five spots to No. 24.
