McDonogh remains No. 3 in state poll
McDonogh held at No. 3 behind No. 1 DeMatha and No. 2 Good Counsel while some other local teams moved up a little in the Maryland High School Football Media State Poll after the first full weekend of action. The Eagles improved to 2-0 after beating then-No. 19 Franklin, 34-14. The Eagles will have a lot of say in how the poll shakes out over the next couple of weeks as they play No. 11 Bishop McNamara (1-1) on Friday and DeMatha (2-0) on Sept. 16. Both games are at home. Archbishop Spalding moved up two spots to No. 7 with a season-opening 52-0 win over St. Mary’s. The Cavaliers also have a chance to improve their standing because they host Good Counsel (1-0) on Friday night. Mount Saint Joseph jumped four spots to No. 10 after a close call against Good Counsel. The Gaels (0-1) fell, 23-21. Also climbing: No. 12 Howard (up one), No. 15 Calvert Hall (up one), No. 19 Old Mill (up one) and No. 20 Gilman (up three). Broadneck stuck at No. 17 while St. Frances dropped one to No. 16 and Franklin tumbled five spots to No. 24.
