Arundel tops Atholton, 3-2, in volleyball
No. 1 Archbishop Spalding field hockey cruises to win
The No. 2 Arundel girls volleyball team outlasted No. 6 Atholton, 3-2, on Tuesday.
The host Wildcats (3-0) won, 25-13, 17-25, 25-19, 23-25, 17-15.
Coach Ashley Yuscavage credited “big play at the net.” She complimented the Raiders (1-1) for passing the ball well.
Chyna Gubbings had 13 kills and 11 digs, and Sydney Sheppard had 24 assists, nine digs and seven kills for Arundel.
NO. 3 HOWARD D. BROADNECK, 3-1: Howard senior setter Julia McKenna, playing her first game without a knee brace since tearing her ACL in last year’s Class 4A North regional-final loss to Dulaney, didn’t show any reservations in the Lions’ four-set win over the visiting Bruins (0-1).
The Lions (2-0) won, 25-13, 25-16, 23-25, 25-13, and had several hitters reach double-digit kills. Senior outside hitter Sarah Sweet led the way with 15, junior middle blocker Christina Kundrat and junior outside hitter Anna Jezerski had 11 each, and senior middle blocker Sara Binkley added 10.
NO. 9SEVERNAPARKD. RIVER HILL, 3-1: Ally Winship had 16 kills and Angela Cottrell had 14 to lead the host Falcons (3-0) past the Hawks (0-2).
Severna Park won, 25-14, 22-25, 25-22, 25-15.

EDGEWOOD 2, RISING SUN 1: Ryan Dean scored twice to lead the Rams (1-1) past the host Tigers (2-1).
Girls soccer
GLENELG COUNTRY 5, INSTITUTE OFNOTREDAME0: Kiersten Moore had a hat trick to power the host Dragons (1-0, 1-0 Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland B Conference) past the Penguins (0-2, 0-1).
Field hockey
NO. 1 ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 5, BRYN MAWR 0: Margot Lawn had two goals and an assist to lead the Cavaliers (6-1, 2-0 IAAM A Conference) past the host Mawrtians (0-4, 0-2).
Kyler Greenwalt had a goal and two assists for Spalding, which led 2-0 at the half.
NO. 7 GARRISON FOREST 5, ST. MARY’S 2: Natalie Adamez scored twice to lead the Grizzlies (6-1, 2-0 IAAM A Conference) past the host Saints (1-1, 1-1).
MOUNT DE SALES 1, GLENELG COUNTRY 0: Libby Rehkemper scored on a penalty corner to lift the host Sailors (4-1, 1-0 IAAM B Conference) over the Dragons (1-1, 0-1).
Water polo
LOYOLA BLAKEFIELD 6, MCDONOGH 5, 2OT: The host Dons (6-1) scored the winner with 39.4 seconds left in the second overtime to beat the Eagles (6-1).
