Loy­ola’s Gal­lagher scores win­ner with 29 sec­onds left

Ben Gal­lagher scored the game-win­ner with 29 sec­onds left as No. 8 host Loy­ola Blake­field up­set top-ranked Calvert Hall, 2-1, in soccer Wed­nes­day.

The Dons im­proved to 2-2 over­all and 2-2 in the Mary­land In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion A Con­fer­ence, and the Car­di­nals fell to 4-1, 4-1.

Zach Ur­ban­ski scored on a header to give Calvert Hall a 1-0 lead at the 65th-minute mark. Loy­ola’s Mar­cei De­sormeaux scored on a free kick from 20 yards 41⁄ min­utes later to even the score. Alex Reid as­sisted on Gal­lagher’s goal.

Chris Kar­povich made eight saves for Dons. Kyle Cooper made four saves for the Car­di­nals.

NO. 6 CA­TONSVILLE 0, TOW­SON 0, OT: The host Comets (2-1-1) took 25 shots to six for the Gen­er­als (4-0-1), but 16 saves by Tow­son se­nior goalie Austin Wenck de­nied them vic­tory.

Ca­tonsville’s best op­por­tu­nity in the first half came with 20 min­utes left when Dale Bor­ing rock­eted a free kick from Drew Bate­man to the far cor­ner, from10 yards out, but Wenck re­jected it with one hand.

“That save in the first half is as good a Mary­vale’s Jenna DiPeso tries to get around Notre Dame Prep’s Camille McGar­vey for bet­ter po­si­tion on a throw-in. high school save as you will see,” Gen­er­als coach Jon Becker said. “That shifted the mo­men­tum, and he was locked in at that point.”

Said Ca­tonsville coach Chris Hast­ings said: “If Dale hits that a foot lower or foot higher it’s in the goal.”

SEV­ERN 3, AN­NAPO­LIS AREA CHRISTIAN 0: Devin McCarthy, Spencer Wright and Henry Reed scored to lead the host Ad­mi­rals (5-3, 2-1 MIAA B Con­fer­ence) past the Ea­gles (1-3, 1-3).

Girls soccer

NO. 5 NOTRE DAME PREP 3, MARY­VALE 0: For­wards Halle Re­gan, Alex Fava and Gil­lian Eby scored for the Blaz­ers (3-1) in an In­ter­scholas­tic Ath­letic As­so­ci­a­tion of Mary­land non­con­fer­ence game vic­tory over the host Lions (0-5-1).

NO. 11 PERRY HALL 3, EASTERN TECH 2: The vis­it­ing Ga­tors (4-1) scored twice late in the game to beat the Mav­er­icks (1-2).

Rachel Bohli, Ryleigh Fach­ler and Erica Fitch scored for Perry Hall.

Girls vol­ley­ball

NO. 11 ST. PAUL’S D. ARCH­BISHOP SPALD­ING, 3-2: Jala Tucker had 21 kills and Mor­gan Hill had 31 as­sists to lead the host Ga­tors (2-0, 2-0 IAAM A Con­fer­ence) past the Cava­liers (0-4, 0-1).

St. Paul’s won, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22, 21-25, 15-12.

GLENELG COUN­TRY D. FRIENDS, 3-2: Joy Hursey had nine kills and the host Dragons (1-0, 1-0 IAAM C Con­fer­ence) had 21 aces and beat the Quak­ers (0-1, 0-1).

Glenelg Coun­try won, 25-20, 25-23, 18-25, 18-25, 17-15.

NO. 7 MOUNT DE SALES D. JOHN CAR­ROLL, 3-1: Camille Kreisel went 22for-22 serv­ing with six aces and the host Sailors (1-1, 1-1 IAAM A Con­fer­ence) beat the Pa­tri­ots (3-1, 1-1).

Mount de Sales won, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Wa­ter polo

GIL­MAN 10, LOY­OLA BLAKE­FIELD 9: Pa­trick Elfert had three goals for the Dons (8-2) in a loss to the host Grey­hounds (3-5).

Loy­ola’s pre­vi­ous loss was to Malvern Prep (Pa.), 13-12, on Sept. 2.
