Van Hollen is best for business

- Margot Dorfman, Washington, D.C. The writer is CEO of the U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce.

The Sun recently reported that Republican Del. Kathy Szeliga received the endorsement of the National Federation of Independent Business, but readers are missing an important piece of information about the business community’s support in this Senate campaign. The U.S. Women’s Chamber of Commerce has proudly endorsed Rep. Chris Van Hollen to succeed Barbara Mikulski in the U.S. Senate.

Our 30,000 Maryland members know that Mr. Van Hollen has a track record of getting things done for his community and understand that now is the time to leverage his experience, relationships and conviction to continue his support for the needs of Maryland families in Congress. He supports a positive economic environment for women workers and business owners, American job creation, fair pay, a fair minimum-wage, family-friendly workplaces, access to affordable and quality health care and birth control, tax policies that support a vibrant middle class and access to capital and federal contracts for women-owned firms. He has a proven track record as an effective leader, is committed to women’s economic priorities and will work to ensure that our tax policy strengthens small businesses and entrepreneurs.

Growing the number of strong leaders in Congress who champion women’s economic priorities is critical to assuring American prosperity as it is directly linked to the economic success of women. Chris Van Hollen will continue to get things done in Washington that will directly support strong Maryland family economics. We are proud to endorse his candidacy.
