Landon’s Bordley to talk at LaxCon in January

Landon coach Rob Bordley will speak at the US Lacrosse Convention at Baltimore Convention Center. Bordley, a 1966 graduate of the all-boys school, is celebratin­g his 47th year as a teacher and coach at his alma mater. In 2015, Bordley captured his 600th career win as a coach and Landon’s 30th Interstate Athletic Conference title. LaxCon, the sport’s largest educationa­l event, is set for Jan. 20-22. MEN’S COLLEGE SOCCER: Senior Sam Bascom and freshman Andrew Hopkins (McDonogh) scored back-to-back goals in the 70th and 74th minutes to lead host Navy (4-7-3) to a 2-1 comefrom-behind win over visiting UMBC (4-6-3) on Tuesday night. Sammy Kahsai scored for the Retrievers in the 33rd minute on a pass from freshman Colin Weyant (Perry Hall). ... Maryland senior defender Alex Crognale was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. ... Senior midfielder Dimitri Kaliakin broke the school record for career assists, which had stood since 1975, as visiting Washington College (8-5-1) earned a 3-1 win over Catholic (6-9-1). Kaliakin picked up his 27th and 28th assists. MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Maryland announced that its exhibition against Catawba on Nov. 5 at Xfinity Center will begin at 2 p.m. and be shown on BTN2Go. ... Baltimore City Community College (171 points) is picked in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference coaches preseason poll to edge out Harford CC (168) for first place. Frederick CC (136) is picked for third, followed by defending champion Montgomery College (125), Garrett College (124), Cecil College (123), Allegany College (110), Prince George’s CC (107), CCBC-Dundalk (72), Hagerstown CC (56), CCBC-Catonsvill­e (47), Southern Maryland College (41), Howard CC (38), Chesapeake College (29) and Anne Arundel CC (18). COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Former Ravens offensive coordinato­r Jim Zorn will coach one of the teams in the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl on Jan. 21 in Carson, Calif. Mike Martz will coach the other team in the postseason all-star game for draft-eligible players. COLLEGE FIELD HOCKEY: Maryland senior forward Welma Luus was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week. COLLEGE TENNIS: April Weaver, who graduated from Washington College this year, was named men’s and women’s assistant coach at her alma mater. VARSITY GIRLS SOCCER: McDonogh (6-1-1) remained at No. 11 in the USA Today/National Soccer Coaches Associatio­n of America poll. Archbishop Spalding (10-2-2) stayed at No. 25. VARSITY BASEBALL: St. Mary’s shortstop Nick Hopkins, who is expected to graduate in 2018, committed to La Salle. —
