Tickets on sale for Md. Athletic Hall induction

The Maryland State Athletic Hall of Fame Foundation will hold its 2016 induction banquet Thursday at 6 p.m., at Michael’s Eighth Avenue at 7220 Grayburn Drive in Glen Burnie. Inductees will be former Orioles outfielder Brady Anderson, who was born in Silver Spring; Chester-born powerboate­r Wheeler Baker; former Maryland running back Louis Carter (Arundel); National Sailing Hall of Famer and announcer Gary Jobson, who is based in Annapolis; former soccer-player and four-sport athlete Laurie Schwoy (McDonogh); and former Johns Hopkins and Towson High lacrosse player Jack Thomas. Reporter Jim Henneman will receive the John F. Steadman Lifetime Achievemen­t Award. The evening begins with cocktails and a silent auction at 6 p.m., dinner at 7, and awards from 8 to 10. LAUREL PARK: John Jones, riding a three-race win streak that began with his upset of Ben’s Cat in the Mister Diz Stakes, and 11-year- old No Brakes, a veteran of 106 starts that has won two of his past three races, are among the horses being pointed to Claiming Crown Preview Day on Sunday at Laurel Park. Nine starter stakes worth a total of $400,000 in purses are part of a card in which all preview winners will earn an automatic berth to the $1.11 million Claiming Crown and free shipping to Gulfstream Park in Hallandale Beach, Fla., on Dec. 3.
