Maria Cof­fin, Annapolis, cross coun­try

The stand­out se­nior, last year’s All-Metro Cross Coun­try Run­ner of the Year, cap­tured her third straight Anne Arun­del cross coun­try cham­pi­onship last Wed­nes­day at Ch­e­sa­peakeAA. Cof­fin came across in 17 min­utes, 25 sec­onds to en­joy a com­fort­able win over the run­ner-up, her younger sis­ter, Anna, who finished in 19:05. Win­ning big races has be­come the norm for Cof­fin, who also is a stand­out dis­tance run­ner in track and field. In her ju­nior cross coun­try sea­son, she won the Anne Arun­del and Class 3A East re­gion races be­fore claim­ing her first state crown.

Af­ter win­ning a state ti­tle in the 1,600-meter run in in­door track and state out­door ti­tles in the 1,600 and 3,200,, she was named the All-Metro Out­door Track and Field Per­former of the Year. Cof­fin re­cently com­mit­ted to run at Providence.
