Trent Wil­liams is sus­pended

Wash­ing­ton Red­skins left tackle Trent Wil­liams was sus­pended four games Tues­day for vi­o­lat­ing the NFL’s sub­stance abuse pol­icy

It’s his sec­ond four-game sus­pen­sion and first since 2011. He tested pos­i­tive for mar­i­juana mul­ti­ple times over the sum­mer of 2011 and served it that sea­son.

Wil­liams will miss Wash­ing­ton’s games against the Min­nesota Vik­ings, Green Bay Pack­ers, Dal­las Cow­boys and Ari­zona Car­di­nals.

He’s el­i­gi­ble to re­turn to the team Dec. 5.

The four-time Pro Bowl left tackle has missed only three games dat­ing to 2012. Charles out longer: The Chiefs placed Ja­maal Charles on in­jured re­serve Tues­day, sidelin­ing the run­ning back for at least eight more weeks.

Ac­cord­ing to a re­port f rom NFL Net­work, Charles needs a sec­ond surgery on the same right knee in which he tore his ACL last sea­son.

The ear­li­est Charles can re­turn is Week 17 against the Charg­ers.

Charles suf­fered a set­back last week in the leadup to the team’s matchup with the Colts, a game Charles was de­clared in­ac­tive for. Af­ter the game, coach Andy Reid said Charles would see Dr. James Andrews for an opin­ion on his knee. Harvin un­re­tires: Wide re­ceiver Percy Harvin is com­ing out of re­tire­ment to re­join the Bills and re­in­force the team’s in­jury­de­pleted group of re­ceivers.

NFL Net­work re­ported the Bills will pay Harvin $1 mil­lion, in­clud­ing in­cen- tives, over the fi­nal eight games of the sea­son.

Stay­ing healthy has been a ca­reer-long prob­lem for Harvin and even­tu­ally led to his an­nounc­ing his re­tire­ment in April af­ter an in­jury-short­ened sea­son in Buf­falo. He had 19 catches for 218 yards and a touch­down in five games with the Bills. Huff ar­rested: Ea­gles wide re­ceiver Josh Huff was charged with pos­ses­sion of a 9 mm hand­gun with­out a per­mit and for a small amount of mar­i­juana af­ter he was pulled over for speed­ing, ac­cord­ing to a court com­plaint.

Huff was pulled over on the New Jer­sey side of the Walt Whit­man Bridge around 11 a.m. Tues­day.

He faces charges for pos­sess­ing the gun with­out a per­mit in New Jer­sey and for the mag­a­zine found with six hol­low-point bul­lets. He faces a dis­or­derly per­sons of­fense for hav­ing less than 50 grams of mar­i­juana, po­lice said. Ex­tra points: The Jets claimed RB Knile Davis off waivers from the Pack­ers. Davis, who was ac­quired by the Pack­ers from the Chiefs on Oct. 18, was waived Mon­day. ... Lions DE Ar­monty Bryant was sus­pended three games for vi­o­lat­ing the league’s sub­stance abuse pol­icy. ... Vik­ings coach Mike Zim­mer un­der­went a “mi­nor med­i­cal pro­ce­dure,” the team an­nounced. No other de­tails about Zim­mer’s con­di­tion were dis­closed. … Com­mis­sioner Roger Good­ell spoke with Pan­thers QB Cam New­ton about the reign­ing league Most Valu­able Player’s con­cerns re­gard­ing the lack of late-hit penal­ties called against the team’s op­po­si­tion this sea­son.
