Orioles add minor league slugger David Washington

-

The Orioles signed first baseman-outfielder David Washington, formerly of the St. Louis Cardinals organization, to a minor league contract Monday and assigned to Triple-ANorfolk. Washington, 6 feet 5 and 260 pounds, is a career .250 hitter. Last season he hit 30 home runs between Double-A Springfield and Triple-A Memphis but struck out 169 times in 127 total games. VARSITY BOYS BASKETBALL: Junior Jalen Smith had 19 points and nine rebounds and senior Nigel Jackson had 15 points to lead host Mount Saint Joseph to a 75-42 victory over Indian Creek. The Gaels led 36-23 with 3:23 left in the third quarter and pulled away with a 9-0 run. HUNTING: The Maryland Department of Natural Resources recently announced the dates of the annual two-week firearm deer season. Hunters may use firearms to harvest sika and whitetailed deer from Saturday through Dec. 10. The DNR reminded hunters that an antler point restriction has been instituted for white-tailed deer. Hunters may harvest up to two antlered deer per license year, which have two or fewer points on each antler present. Any additional antlered deer taken within the legal seasons and bag limits must have at least three points on one antler. Licensed junior hunters are exempt from the restriction. Hunters who use tree stands are strongly advised to wear a full-body safety harness, which should be secured at all times. NATIONAL WOMEN’S SOCCER LEAGUE: The Washington Spirit re-signed forward Francisca Ordega, who scored the winning goal in extra time in the semifinal win over the Chicago Red Stars. GOLF: Baltimore Municipal Golf Corporation, also known as Baltimore’s Classic Five, will host its 21st annual Turkey Shoot outings Thursday morning at Pine Ridge, Mount Pleasant, Forest Park and Clifton Park courses. A FootGolf outing will be held at the Craig Willinger Memorial FootGolf Course at Carroll Park. Golfers must prepay to reserve a space. To register, go to or call any of the golf course pro shops.
