Vikes’ Zimmer might miss game

-

Vikings coach Mike Zimmer is having emergency eye surgery, about a month after he had an initial procedure to repair a torn retina.

General manager Rick Spielman said Wednesday night that Zimmer was having the operation and is not certain to recover in time for the game against Dallas tonight.

Spielman said he has met with coaches and players to put a contingency plan in place. Matthews angry: Packers outside linebacker Clay Matthews called the play that got him injured Monday night against the Eagles “a cheap shot.”

Matthews suffered an injured left shoulder on a first-quarter block from Eagles lineman Allen Barbre. Matthews missed three plays and returned, then missed the next series while receiving a pain-killing injection. He returned for the Eagles’ third series and played most of the rest of the game. Kelly staying put: 49ers coach Chip Kelly said he has no interest in the Oregon coaching job and has not spoken to anyone associated with the program about it.

Kelly was the Ducks’ coach from 2009 to 2012, compiling a 46-7 record. Oregon fired his successor, Mark Helfrich, on Tuesday after four seasons. Siemian held out: Broncos quarterback Trevor Siemian was held out of practice because of a foot injury suffered in a 30-27 overtime loss to the Chiefs.

Coach Gary Kubiak said Siemian, who threw for a career-high 368 yards last weekend, was placed in a walking boot and is day-today. Kubiak also revealed that rookie fullback Andy Janovich had season-ending surgery on his left ankle. Luck returns: Quarterback Andrew Luck took the next step in the concussion protocol Wednesday by returning to full workouts with the Colts.

If he is cleared by an independent doctor, Luck could start Monday night against the Jets. Luck missed his first game of the season last Thursday after complaining of concussion-like symptoms after a win Nov. 20. Extra points: Raiders QB Derek Carr said he will have no limitations this week because of the injured pinkie on his throwing hand that forced him to miss a series Sunday against the Panthers. ... Falcons DE Adrian Clayborn will miss at least two weeks after having surgery on his left knee. ... Dolphins OT Branden Albert (Glen Burnie) returned to practice on a limited basis after missing two games with a dislocated left wrist. G Laremy Tunsil (shoulder) also returned.
