Ravens top Oilers in last NFL game at Memorial Stadium

DEC. 14, 1997: In the last NFL game played at Memorial Stadium, the Ravens defeat the Tennessee Oilers, 21-19, before an announced 60,558. Baltimore (6-8-1) wins on a 15-yard touchdown pass from Eric Zeier to Derrick Alexander.

DEC. 11, 1989: On the heels of a 19-17 upset win over Army, Navy fires football coach Elliot Uzelac, whose three-year record at the academy is 8-25. He’ll be replaced by George Chaump, who’ll go 14-41 over five seasons.

DEC. 11, 1971: “It sounded like what [former Green Bay Packers coach] Vince Lombardi would say,” the Colts’ Bubba Smith says of teammate John Mackey’s pep talk before the team’s 14-3 win over the Miami Dolphins at Memorial Stadium. The victory gives the Colts (10-3) the lead in the AFC East.

DEC. 12, 1967: Rookie Earl Monroe scores a career-high 32 points as the Bullets rout the Detroit Pistons, 140-117, before an announced 2,293 at the Civic Center. The win breaks a six-game losing streak for Baltimore, which also gets 35 points from Kevin Loughery.

DEC. 12, 1952: Willie Lester, 20, an apprentice jockey from Catonsvill­e, wins four races in a row at Bowie Race Course and, in a photo finish, narrowly misses a fifth victory that would have tied the track record.

DEC. 16, 1925: In a close-fought basketball game in Irvington, Mount Saint Joseph nips Gilman, 17-16. The Josephites are led by Harry O’Connell, their team captain, who scores four points.
