Why we voted against Trump

- Catherine Hart, Mt. Airy

When millions of people marched against Donald Trump and his agenda the day after he was sworn into office the president sent out a tweet asking why all those people hadn’t voted. What a strange question. Here is the answer:

Mr. Trump, we did vote. We didn’t vote for you. In fact, you lost the election by nearly 3 million votes. If we lived in a democracy, you wouldn’t be president right now. Instead, the Electoral College handed a “victory” to the loser — namely you. We did not get the president Americans chose. Instead, we ended up with the president Russia chose. Very sad! And no, there weren’t any millions of fraudulent votes cast, and everyone knows it.

Here are a few more points upon which you need education:

There are no such thing as “alternative facts.” They are simply lies.

There were nowhere near 1.5 million people at your inauguration. Television ratings were not higher than President Barack Obama’s first inauguration.

CIA employees were not thrilled with your remarks when you visited them. The loud cheering came from your supporters who were brought in for the event. Talking about your feud with the media and crowd size at the inauguration was spectacularly inappropriate. It was certainly not a “win.”

Almost all your choices to fill Cabinet positions are incompetent, unqualified or both. Not to mention the legal issues that should disqualify a number of them. You are a walking disaster.

The reasons millions more of us voted against you than for you is because we do not want a wall, we do not want a refugee ban and we do not want our health care taken away. That is why we march, and why we will continue to march. Get a clue!
