Title-winning Bel Air girls soccer coach steps down

Bel Air girls soccer coach Josh Clemmer, who went 111-44-10 with one state title in 10 seasons as coach, has stepped down to accept an administra­tive position at Fallston for the coming school year. Under his guidance, the Bobcats made five state tournament­s — including the past four — with the title coming in 2015. They also are fourtime defending Upper Chesapeake Bay Athletic Conference champions. Clemmer was named AllMetro Coach of the Year in 2015 after leading the Bobcats to a 19-0 season and the Class 3A state crown. Clemmer will become an assistant principal at Fallston. — GOLF: The Constellat­ion Senior Players Championsh­ip at Caves Valley is granting free admission to all military members and their families, as well as attendees under age 18. NHL: The Washington Capitals’ home opener for the 2017-18 season will be at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 against the Montreal Canadiens. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Robert E. Woods, the only man to start in the Army-Navy football game as both a cadet and a midshipman, died last month at his home in Darien, Conn., according to the Military Times. He was 96. Woods played for the Midshipmen as a halfback in 1941, left the academy the following year, and joined Army on the 1942 and 1943 teams. COLLEGECRO­SSCOUNTRY: Former Perry Hall and Villanova standout Kristine Jost was named coach of the Howard Community College men’s and women’s teams. WOMEN’S COLLEGE SWIMMING AND DIVING: Mount St. Mary’s graduate Sarah Bonson was named one of five Northeast Conference Female Scholar-Athletes of the Year. The award goes to athletes who have exhausted their athletic eligibilit­y, graduated and compiled the highest GPA in the conference at the conclusion of the academic calendar. MAJOR LEAGUE LACROSSE: The Chesapeake Bayhawks will host their Hometown Hero and Military Appreciati­on Night on July 2, when they face the Rochester Rattlers at Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium. The evening will feature fireworks and a live on-field concert by Craig Campbell. —
