Marlins: OF Giancarlo Stanton’s eighth-inning single off RHP Max Scherzer broke a tie and helped the Marlins defeat the Nationals 2-1 on Wednesday. Stanton’s hit was one of only two for the Marlins, who were held hitless by Scherzer through 7 innings. A wild pitch scored the Marlins’ first run and C A.J. Ellis’ infield single was their other hit. Scherzer was bidding for his third no-hitter.

Royals: CSalvador Perez hit his first career grand slam, connecting in the eighth inning to rally the Royals over the Red Sox 6-4. According to ESPN Stats and Informatio­n, Perez was the first Royal to hit a grand slam in the eighth inning or later with the team trailing since Frank White in 1986. The Royals have won nine of 11 and moved within a game of .500.

Rays: OF Mallex Smith had a pair of singles to extend his hitting streak to 12 games and also tagged out the majors’ basesteali­ng leader, Billy Hamilton, after a lengthy rundown as the Rays defeated the Reds 8-3. 3B Trevor Plouffe and 2B Taylor Feathersto­n both homered for the Rays, while OF Steven Souza Jr. and 1B Logan Morrison each drove in two runs.

Cubs: Addison Russell’s wife filed for divorce nearly two weeks after the Cubs shortstop was accused of hitting her. Melisa Reidy-Russell is seeking full cus- tody of the couple’s young son along with child and other support.

Dodgers: SS Corey Seager hit three home runs in a 12-0 win over the Mets on Tuesday, becoming just the fourth player in major-league history to have a pair of three-homer games before his 24th birthday. Red Sox OF Mookie Betts and former players Juan Gonzalez and Boog Powell previously accomplish­ed the feat. Seager also went deep three times against the Braves on June 3, 2016.

Diamondbac­ks: The Diamondbac­ks signed INF Pavin Smith, the seventh overall pick in this year’s draft, and C Daulton Varsho, the 68th overall pick.
