Astros: All-Star SS Carlos Correa is expected to miss six to eight weeks with a torn ligament in his left thumb. GMJeff Luhnow said losing Correa was a “big blow” but said he was expected back for the stretch run. Correa’s spot will be split between 3B Alex Bregman and utility player Marwin Gonzalez. IF Colin Moran was recalled.

Red Sox: SS Xander Bogaerts was scratched due to a right hand injury. Bogaerts left a game July 6 after being drilled by a pitch. He returned to the lineup two days later but is just 4-for-26 since then. ... The Red Sox optioned 1B Sam Travis and LHP Robby Scott and recalled LHP Brian Johnson and RHP Hector Velazquez.

Twins: RHP Phil Hughes will miss the rest of the season because of persistent arm trouble related to a condition that required rib-removal surgery a year ago. Hughes recovered from the thoracic outlet syndrome procedure and won a spot in the rotation but went on the DL after nine starts with shoulder weakness and may need more surgery. He was 4-3 with a 5.87 ERA this season.

Diamondbac­ks: Chris Herrmann capped a six-run fifth with a two-run homer in an 11-2 rout of the Reds. Rey Fuentes added a pinch three-run shot in the seventh as the D’backs ended a five-game skid by tying a season high with nine extra-base hits.

Pirates: Francisco Cervelli and Josh Harrison homered and the streaking Pirates welcomed OF Starling Marte back with a 4-3 victory over the Brewers. Marte went 1-for-3 in his return from an 80-game PED suspension. He also walked in the sixth, coming around to score on Harrison’s 11th home run that tied the game. The Pirates won their third straight and pulled within five games of the first-place Brewers in the crowded NL Central.

Cardinals: Michael Wacha threw a three-hitter for his first career shutout and Matt Carpenter had four hits in a 5-0 victory over the Mets. Wacha has won his last four starts. He struck out eight and walked one.
