Loyola upends top-ranked St. Frances

Dons send Panthers to first loss in conference; DeWees scores 2,000th

JJ Halaby made two free throws with 2.5 seconds left in the second overtime and host Loyola Blakefield stunned No. 1 St. Frances with an 81-80 upset victory Friday night.

The Dons improved to 14-12, 8-8 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n A Conference Red Division and the Panthers fell to 28-3, 13-1.

St. Frances forced the first overtime when Rajeir Jones made two free throws to tie the game at 65 with 12 seconds left in regulation. The Panthers took a five-point lead in the first overtime before Loyola rallied. Cam Shaw made a 3-pointer with five seconds left to force the second overtime.

Elijah Epps made a layup with 15 seconds left in the second overtime for a 79-78 St. Frances lead. Epps finished with with 18 points and Loyola’s Shaw had a game-high 26 points and Halaby had 23 points.

BEN FRANKLIN 72, EDMONDSON 71: Nathan Mister scored 28 points and Cameron Miller had 16 points, 16 rebounds and 11 blocks to lead the host Bayhawks (12-7) past the Red Storm (6-7).

CATONSVILL­E 63, FRANKLIN 54: AJ Sims scored 11 points, but the host Indians (9-9) fell to the Comets (10-8).

OAKLAND MILLS 56, WILDE LAKE 53: Trea Keys scored a game-high 20 points, but the visiting Wildecats (7-11) fell to the Scorpions (14-4). Oakland Mills went on a 17-11 run in the fourth quarter to win.

SEVERN 64, ST. JOHN’S CATHOLIC PREP 42: LJ Owens scored 23 points to lead the visiting Admirals (22-5, 11-3 Maryland Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n B Conference) past the Vikings (10-12, 5-8).

C. MILTON WRIGHT 72, HARFORD TECH 62: Imran Husain scored 24 points to lead the host Mustangs (15-4) past the Cobras (13-4).

SOUTHERN 70, BROADNECK 57, OT: Curtis Holland III scored 24 points for the host Bulldogs (16-4). Shane Davis scored 18 pointsfor the Bruins (13-8).

ANNAPOLIS 79, SEVERNA PARK 63: Christian Jones scored 22 points and Zion Greer scored 13 for the Panthers (14-7). Kody Milton scored 19 points for the host Falcons (3-17).

Girls

MANCHESTER VALLEY 63, NORTH HAGERSTOWN 52: Mackenzie DeWees needed 26 points to reach 2,000 for her career. She got 30 points to lead the visiting Mavericks (15-3) past the Hubs (0-11).

DeWees surpassed 1,000 career rebounds earlier this week. Her point total now stands at 2,004.

NO. 3 ROLANDPARK­64, ARCHBISHOP SPALDING 43: Mya Henson scored 20 points and Mir McLean had 18 points to lead the visiting Reds (20-6, 6-4 Interschol­astic Athletic Associatio­n of Maryland A Conference) past the Cavaliers (4-11, 0-9) in the regular-season finale.

NO. 14 WESTMINSTE­R 46, SOUTH CARROLL 38: Sophia Diehl scored 15 points to lead the host Owls (18-0, 12-0 Carroll) past the Cavaliers (10-10, 7-5).

NO. 15 CHESAPEAKE- AA 65, NORTHEAST 61: Brooke Worrell scored 29 points to lead the host Cougars (16-5) past the Eagles (4-15).

MOUNT DE SALES 54, SEVERN 22: Sydney Skalstad scored 14 points to lead the host Sailors (17-7) past the Admirals (6-18) in the opening round of the IAAM B Conference tournament. Mount de Sales hosts Mt. Carmel, a 26-22 winner over Notre Dame Prep, in Tuesday’s quarterfin­al.

GERSTELL ACADEMY 32, ROCKBRIDGE ACADEMY 30: Jillian Wilson scored 15 points to lead the visiting Falcons (10-9) past the Scots (4-4).

MCDONOGH WINS: The host Eagles (9-1) beat Loyola Blakefield, 480-474, to claim the MIAA A Conference championsh­ip on Feb. 3. Calvert Hall took third with 293.
