Ravens acquire Jim Harbaugh from Colts for 3rd-round pick

FEB. 14, 1998: The Ravens acquire quarterback Jim Harbaugh, 34, from the Indianapolis Colts for a third-round draft pick. Harbaugh plays one disappointing year for Baltimore (6-10). In the 2012 season, he coaches the San Francisco 49ers to the Super Bowl, where they lose to the Ravens and coach John Harbaugh, his brother.

FEB. 13, 1968: The Colts name George Young, City College football coach, as assistant personnel director. Young, who played at Calvert Hall, goes on to win two Super Bowls as general manager of the New York Giants.

FEB. 17, 1965: Freckle-faced Cliff Richey, 18, upsets Mexico’s Rafael Osuna, ranked No. 4 in the world, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3, in the second round of the National Indoor Tennis Tournament in Salisbury. Five years later, Richey, of Dallas, becomes the No. 1 male player in the United States.

FEB. 17, 1959: Jockey Bobby Corle, 23, who suffered a fractured right leg in a race three months ago, wins four races (three in a row) at Bowie Race Course.

FEB. 12, 1952: Primo Carnera, world heavyweight boxing champion-turnedwrestler, defeats Lord Leslie Carlton of England in the feature match at the Coliseum.

FEB. 14, 1948: In Annapolis, Navy’s wrestling team wins its 43rd consecutive dual meet, 24-5, over Princeton. Heavyweight Newbold Smith and captain Johnny Fletcher (155 pounds) score shutout decisions for the Midshipmen.

FEB. 14, 1930: City defeats Poly, 18-17, in basketball at Carlin’s Park. The Collegians, held without a basket for the first eight minutes, make six of 56 shots; Poly makes five of 39.

FEB. 16, 1917: “For a team to score only a goal in a basketball game is rather unusual,” The Sun reports after St. John’s, of Annapolis, defeats Johns Hopkins, 61-2, at home.
