UMBC men beat New Hampshire, 68-59

Lyles, Grant lead way; Loyola men fall, 84-67

Jairus Lyles scored 18 points, Jourdan Grant added 14 and visiting UMBC won at New Hampshire for the first time in six years, 68-59, on Sunday.

The Retrievers (18-8, 9-3 America East Conference), down two at halftime, made 12 of 21 field goals (67 percent), including their last six, and 14 of 20 free throws in the second half while limiting the Wildcats (10-16, 6-6) to 31 percent from the field and 4-for-7 from the free-throw line.

Tanner Leissner had 16 points and moved past Al McClain (1980-1984) to become New Hampshire’s all-time leading scorer with 1,882 points.

LAFAYETTE 84, LOYOLA MARYLAND 67: Matt Klinewski scored 25 points and the host Leopards defeated the Greyhounds.

Klinewski was 9-for-12 shooting and had six of Lafayette’s 39 rebounds, 17 more than Loyola. Paulius Zalys had 10 rebounds for the Leopards (8-17, 6-8 Patriot League), who have won three of their past four and split the season series with Loyola (8-17, 6-8).

Lafayette shot 57 percent and made half of its 20 shots from beyond the arc.

Andre Walker scored 15 points to lead the Greyhounds.

Women

NEW HAMPSHIRE 51, UMBC 46: Carlie Pogue scored 16 points to lead the visiting Wildcats (16-10, 7-6 America East) over the Retrievers (3-22, 2-10).

Lucrezia Costa, Laura Castaldo and Brittani Burgess each scored eight points for UMBC.

JAMES MADISON 64, TOWSON 55: Kamiah Smalls scored17 points to lift the Dukes (16-8, 12-1 Colonial Athletic Associatio­n) over the host Tigers (9-15, 4-9).

Nukiya Mayo scored 19 points and Danielle Durjan added14 for Towson, which shot just 23.3 percent (7for-30) in the first half and trailed 28-17 at halftime.
